Every year for Memorial Day, Boy Scouts from around the area place over 1000 American flags in a field near I-435 and 95th St in Lenexa to remember those who died serving our country. Corporal Sumner and K9 Ram stopped by to take in this special tribute.

As another school year comes to a close, here are some highlights from our School Resource Officers over the last 9 months. We couldn't be more proud of SRO's Peterson, Pierce, Larson and Hoch for the outstanding work they do in our community.

Last night we hosted a Ramadan fast-breaking meal along with the Dialogue Institute of Kansas City. We've had the privilege of getting to know these gracious folks at several events and appreciate their desire to bring differing cultures together.

Officer Derrick Pierce was recently recognized by the Lenexa Optimist Club for his dedication to the community as a School Resource Officer. He is a great representative of our police department!

We enjoyed visiting some fine young Lenexa citizens this morning at Country Kids Day Care! Maybe even some future officers in that group!

Yesterday some of our officers were joined by the Johnson County Park Police for ‘Cops on Donut Shops’ to help raise money for Special Olympics Kansas. Thanks to Dunkin Donuts Lenexa for hosting!

Sad to report the passing yesterday of retired Police K9 Speedy. Speedy served the Lenexa Police Department from 2008 until 2014. During his tenure, Speedy had 290 narcotics finds, 17 suspect apprehensions, and $75K in cash seizures. After his retirement, K9 Speedy continued to live with his handler, Sergeant Harris, and his family. RIP Speedy.

Our newest officers are getting some post Academy, in-house training this morning on tactical building searches. In a couple weeks they will begin Field Training on patrol!

Thanks to Matt Evans KMBC for capturing this special event

To commemorate National Peace Officer Memorial Day we held a wreath laying ceremony this morning to pay respects to those who have died serving their community, state or our nation as police officers. We are blessed to have never lost a Lenexa officer in the line of duty however we still take time this week to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

As part of National Police Week we will have a wreath laying ceremony to remember those officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice. This brief ceremony will take place Tuesday, May 15 at 10:00 AM at the fountain in front of the Lenexa Police Department. The public is invited to attend as well.

To all the moms who wear the badge and to all the moms who raised us to wear the badge. We love you. Happy Mother’s Day

Awhile back we told you about Officer Brandon Hoch, who is the School Resource Officer at Trailridge Middle School and also coaches the boys basketball team. Recently he and the students were having fun in the gym before school when this happened...

Our officers were loving high-five Friday at Manchester Park Elementary this morning. Great to see all those smiles coming in to school!

This case sucks! Can you help us ID this theft suspect who made off with over $1000 in vacuum cleaners from a local retailer? Here are a couple pics of him, as well as the getaway car. If you know who he is we'd appreciate a call to 913-825-8163 or you can send us a message!

Last week the staff at St. James Academy Catholic High School had a little fun with School Resource Officer Peterson by dressing up as inmates. It was all in good fun and they even brought in...what else, DONUTS for her! We sure appreciate getting to partner together with our Lenexa schools!
