Congratulations to Merriam Park Elementary school. They are the first school in Johnson County to receive a "Health Partnership Clinic!" We attended the ribbon cutting this morning. The clinic, which operates inside the school building, provides on site medical, dental, and behavioral health care for students and families-regardless of an ability to pay. This will be a great addition to a great school!!

Today, MPO Hutchinson and MPO Simmons represented the Merriam Police Department at the funeral of FBI Special Agent Melissa Morrow. Melissa bravely served her country for 23 years with the FBI. She was on an FBI evidence collection team where she worked at the Pentagon crash site for 10 weeks after 9/11 in hazadous and contaminated conditions. As a result, she devloped brain cancer-which ultimately led to her death. Did you know??? 73 law enforcement officers were killed on 9/11, most of which were trying to rescue victims from the twin towers. Since that time there have been twice as many officers and agents that have died (over 150) from 9/11 related duty illness and cancers. Please remember the sacrifice of these brave women and men so they are never forgotten.. https://www.odmp.org/officer/23622-special-agent-melissa-s-morrow

Congratulations to Officer Vincent Rock who was promoted to Master Police Officer at this evening’s City Council meeting. His father in law Dennis Horner had the honor of pinning his new badge. Way to go!

FOLLOW UP: So we thanked Facebook Nation for your help with reuniting some stolen martial arts equipment with the rightful owner (1 hour no less!). Meet Isaac. He was the little boy whose equipment was stolen. Here he is pictured with Det. Castaneda after getting his ninja gear back. Aren’t happy endings great?!?

Being a 24/7 operation makes it difficult for everyone to get together. We do take the time once a year to have a meal together as a group and give out some awards. We just so happened to do that last night....

OK Facebook Nation-Merriam PD is asking for your help. We had a car stolen a couple of weeks ago and when it was found abaondoned, there was a set of children's martial arts gear found inside that did not belong to the car's owner. Were guessing there's a sad little guy out there that had it stolen. Let's use the power of social media to reunite the gear with a child. Please share the post and if you know of anyone who is missing this, have them call Det. Castaneda at 913 322-5562. Thanks!
