Congratulations to all of the kiddos who found the eggs with the bicycles!

Reminder: Next Saturday starting at 10:00 AM is Chetopa’s Easter Eggstravaganza. It will be held at the football field unless it’s raining in which case it will be moved to the old school gym. Chetopa Police Department will be there with extra special giveaways for kids!! Come out and join us.

Make plans to come out and support our officers 👮 competing in the Chetopa FFA Dodgeball Tournament on Friday, February 23rd, 2018!! Tournament starts at 6:00PM. This will be a fun event for the whole family!

Update: During the course of the investigation a suspect was identified, a search warrant was executed and a 14 year old male juvenile was taken into custody by officers from the Chetopa Police Department. Charges are expected to be filed in Labette County District Court. Once again we would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance; Labette County Sheriffs Office Kansas Highway Patrol Labette Health EMS Chetopa Fire Department Chetopa 1st Responders ■■■ The suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. ■■■ From Superintendent Dr. Bobbi Williams: On Monday, October 23, at approximately 9:40, Chetopa Schools went into a lockdown and shortly thereafter evacuated the students and staff to a location off campus due to a bomb threat. Students were released to their parents as requested. At the time of the threat, Chetopa Police Department was contacted. CPD contacted Labette County Sheriff’s Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol for assistance. A thorough search of the building was conducted without incident and the building was returned to the district’s control at 2:03 and staff and students were allowed to return to campus. Classes have resumed as normal. The investigation is ongoing.

Chetopa PD -BE SAFE HALLOWEEN ! We are adding some new different things to our already fun night! Starting at 6:30p.m. we will serve free hotdogs, pop and hot chocolate. We will serve until we run out! The Spooky story hayride will start as close to 6:30p.m. as we can. There is no age limit. Toddlers or any children under the age of 5 need a parent to ride with them please. The hayride is sponsored by Lawellin Hauling and Backhoe Service. Thank you for Sponsoring and spending your Halloween doing this it's such a fun time!. Then also at 6:30p.m. we are adding a little kids spook train! Then at 7:30p.m. it should last until about 9pm we will be showing the movie Hocus Pocus in the Spooky theater instead of the of spooky maze. No age limit for the movie it is rated PG. THERE WILL BE HEAT in the "Theater." We hope to see everyone at the Police Station on Halloween night! For a fun safe Halloween!

Our "Be Safe Halloween" will begin immediately following the Pumpkin Parade at the Old School Gym (approx 6:30PM). Hi everyone! I wanted to give you a look ahead....... Sponsored by the Chetopa Police Department!. This year we are having a gingerbread house contest. Please have entries turned in no earlier than November 15th . We want them to last until the Parade. All entries will be displayed on a float in the Christmas Parade. There will be 1, 2 and 3rd place prizes. Until the Christmas Parade all entries will be on display at local businesses. Winners will be announced Thursday December 7th after the Chetopa Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade at cookies with Santa. This is for all ages! It can be a family fun project or on your own. NO age exclusion! Come on ladies you know you wanna get involved! At pecan feast in November we will have a crafting spot set up for anyone who wants to make a house at no cost to enter. Fireworks may be discharged in this city between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. from June 27th thru July 5th except on the 4th which will end at midnight. Everyone have a safe and happy 4th of July.

*** Press Release *** On Wednesday April 19th at approximately 12:10 Officer Travis Rakestraw observed Doug Heiskell enter into a residence at 701 Pecan Street. Heiskell has active warrants for his arrest in Labette County for the manufacture and possession of Methamphetmine and Neosho County for Aggravated Assualt with a deadly weapon. Additional units responded to the scene and secured the residence. Due to the violent nature of Heiskell's alleged offences the KBI's high risk warrant team was called to serve a search warrant that was obtained for the residence. After the KBI arrived the warrant was served and it was determined the Heiskell was not in the residence. Upon further investigation the female resident was taken into custody for Felony Interference with Law Enforcement and Felony Obstruction. Formal charges are expected to be filed in Labette County District Court. Heiskell was arrested in Neosho County approximately 6 miles north of Parsons after a brief foot pursuit with Neosho County Deputies. All parties are innocent until proven guility in a court of law.
