Emporia Police Department News

Another round of winter weather is heading our way! If you must venture out please do so slowly and safely! https://twitter.com/nwstopeka/status/966459428663906305

The Emporia Police Department understands everyone’s emotions are on high alert. We always say, “See something, say something!” That being said Thursday the Emporia Police Department responded to two incidents reported by vigilant citizens of Emporia. Thursday morning Officers spoke with a juvenile female about conversations she had with a USD 253 teacher. It was determined the juvenile female made concerning comments which were investigated. It was determined there was no intent to commit any act of violence. The Emporia Police Department also verified there were no means to carry out any type of violence. Thursday evening Lyon County Crime Stoppers received a tip in regard to a Snap Chat reposting. Officers and Detectives of the Emporia Police Department followed up on the tip and discovered it was a reposting of a Snap Chat originating in South Carolina. The same post was on other social media sites and national news outlets. Detectives determined Law Enforcement in South Carolina investigated that incident fully. Locally Detectives and Officers located and investigated the juvenile male that shared the Snap Chat post. They determined the juvenile male made no direct threats and he has no means for carrying out harm in such a manner as depicted by the social media posts. The Emporia Police Department wants to thank USD 253 Faculty and Staff for the cooperation and team work during these reports. We would also like to thank the citizens of Emporia for their vigilance and willingness to step up and say what needs to be said if something is amiss. Together we will keep Emporia the great place it is. Our Gratitude also goes out to Lyon County Crime Stopper and the tips that come in. You tip us we will follow up. ### Contact: Lt. Many do not know the true meaning of "The Thin Blue Line". The Thin Blue Line represents Law Enforcement Officers. The black line on the top represents good and the black line on the bottom represents evil. Law Enforcement Officers are the thin line that protects good from evil. The Thin Blue Line symbol is also used to honor fallen Law Enforcement Officers. The Emporia Police Department is very proud to serve and protect the Emporia community.

We are thinking about you RCPD.

Thank you!!!
