Officer Chris Boone recently received a commendation from Chief McDermond for his actions in the line of duty on May 14th, 2018 and we just had to share. Officer Boone responded to Pine Lake Apartments for a report of an intoxicated male who was armed with a gun and being belligerent. Prior to arrival, units were updated that the suspect had fired a round in the breezeway of an apartment building. Officer Boone arrived on scene and, recognizing time was of the essence, immediately confronted the suspect without backup and at great threat to his physical safety, ultimately taking him into custody. Officer Boone maintained a level head, used sound tactics, and safely diffused a potentially deadly confrontation without any force. Officer Boone demonstrated confidence and courage and his actions are worthy of praise. Great job, Chris!

It was a wild afternoon in Florence today! Acting on a tip, FPD responded to the area of The Rave Cinemas on Mall Rd to find 31 year old Joshua Fugate of Hazard, KY. He was reported to be in the area and wanted on several warrants including Theft, Burglary, Assault, and Absconding Parole. When Fugate spotted officers he fled on foot into the woods, hoping to get away. Unfortunately for him, units saturated the area and set up a perimeter to keep him contained and away from the public. FPD Ofc. Eder and K9 Karma responded and began to track Fugate through the woods, marsh, and even the city sewer system. After an exhaustive 3 hour manhunt he was found hiding in a storm sewer, exhausted, and begging to go to jail. Fugate had been evading arrest for 3 years but today his luck was no match for the dedicated officers of The Florence Police Department, The Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Ofc. Eder, and K9 Karma. In addition to his outstanding warrants, Fugate faces charges of Fleeing, Trespassing, and drug charges. Great job to everyone involved in safely apprehending this dangerous fugitive.

ICYMI: it was announced this week that Jessica Hood entered a guilty plea to three counts of Manslaughter in the Second Degree and two counts of Assault in the Fourth Degree for her involvement in the fatal collision on Weaver Road in March of 2015 which claimed the lives of Charles Napier, and Sean and Samantha May. The investigation, and subsequent prosecution, were arduous on all parties involved but in the end we feel that justice has been brought the the victims and closure can begin for their families. We could not have reached a successful resolution without the dedicated public servants who lent their experience and expertise to the investigation. A special thank you to the Florence Police Department Collision Reconstruction Unit, The Florence Fire/EMS, and The Commonwealth's Attorney - Boone & Gallatin Counties for your hard work!
