The City of Morehead will accept applications for the position of Class Title: Police Officer I and II until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018. Applications should be obtained from and returned to the Morehead Police Department, 105 East Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351. Required Training: Must meet all pre-employment standards as established by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council and the Peace Officer’s Professional Standards Office; KLEC Peace Officer’s Certification required, and, on an annual basis, must complete in-service training and any other training as required by KLEC and Morehead Police Department. Must successfully complete a three-month field training program prior to lone field assignment. Must possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license, and must be at least 21 years of age. Must participate in drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment and continued employment. For questions, call Chief Derrick Blevins or Captain Kyle Callahan at 606-784-7511. Local roads are becoming hazardous due to snowfall. Only travel if extremely necessary!

On Friday, March 16th, Morehead PD received a 911 call from an area hotel reporting a male subjected armed with a handgun threatening a female. The caller was able to give a description of the vehicle as it was leaving the area. Morehead PD Officer Josh Ison located that vehicle near Taco Bell on KY 32. During the investigation MPD seized a large amount of crystal meth, heroin, cash and the handgun involved. The street value of the items seized are around $40,000 dollars. Also, we would like to thank the Rowan County Sheriffs for their assistance.

After conferring with Mayor Jim Tom Trent, the Morehead Police Department will renew our commitment to the schools in our city. While we do have a presence at all schools, we have plans to enhance the presence. We will work along side the Kentucky State Police and the Rowan County Sheriff's Office to have more of a presence and work diligently to keep our schools safe!

The Morehead Police Department and Morehead Fire Department conducted a joint training session on responding to active shooters. Training focused on rescuing and evacuating victims.
