Belmont Police Honor Guard paying their respects at the funeral of Officer Sean Gannon today.

With warmer weather, we usually hear from victims of paving scams. Generally, a contractor will knock on your door and offer to pave your driveway at a greatly reduced rate. Payment is made up front, half the job is done and then the workers state they have to leave to get more supplies. They never return to complete the job. Please let us know if this has happened to you.

The Belmont Water Department is not currently going door to door asking to take water samples from your home. Please call us if you have any information or if someone came to your door today.

Three weeks down in our Citizen Police Academy! Last night Captain Hoerr taught our students all about criminal law, procedures and the court system. Next week we'll cover juvenile law and domestic issues with Detective Sergeant Regan and Officer O'Connor!

โ›”๏ธREMINDER! Concord Ave will be closed all week between Mill St and Pleasant St. Please adjust your commute/plans during the day. Expect heavy traffic along the detour and throughout the area.โ›”๏ธ

This weekend Sgt. Shiraz Banosian and Officer Cory Taylor participated in the annual NEADS Pulling for Paws Truck Pull. NEADS raises money for service dogs for veterans and people with disabilities. Their NEMLEC SWAT/K9 team raised over $5,000! Great work!

We would like to take the time to thank Ms. McGovern's 2nd Grade Winn Brook class for their thank you cards! We appreciate your kind words and awesome drawings! From all of us at Belmont Police, thank you!!!!๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Rest In Peace Yarmouth K9 Officer Sean Gannon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, friends and all of Yarmouth PD.

We are now seeing a second wave of blackmail letters. Several Belmont residents have received typed letters in the mail demanding a blackmail payment be made. The anonymous sender informs the resident that they have evidence about "the secret you have been keeping from your wife". The sender agrees to keep the "secret" in exchange for $4,000-$8,000. Scammers will typically request payment via Western Union, Bitcoin, mailed cash or gift cards. Several towns/cities in the area have reported similar letters. Please call us if you received one.

Week 2 of our Citizen's Police Academy is in the books! Last night our students learned about patrol procedures and traffic reconstruction from Sergeant Mailhot. Afterwards, Officer Taylor and K9 Grim, with help from Arlington PD Officer Hogan and K9 Eiko, spoke about our K9 operations! Next week we will cover Criminal law, procedures and the court system with Captain Hoerr! Thank you Arlington, Massachusetts Police Department for your help!

Please see the attached staging information regarding this year's Memorial Day Parade! We have received several calls from residents today about IRS phone scams. Someone pretending to be an "IRS Officer" calls your phone, says you owe a certain amount of money and then threatens to arrest you if you do not pay. These are all scams. The IRS will NEVER call you randomly demanding payment or threatening you with an arrest. HANG UP!!! The link below is from the IRS with information regarding tax scams.

Today, Belmont Police, Belmont High School teachers and staff along with K9s from around the area participated in a dog sweep training of the high school. We'd like to thank Belmont High Principal Dan Richards and the rest of the high school staff for their help!
