********PRESS RELEASE******** As of 3/5/18, a suspect was lodged at the Berrien County Jail for an attempted Breaking and Entering at the Barney’s Market, in New Buffalo City. We are working closely with investigators from multiple agencies, including Dowagiac and Cass County, to determine if the suspect may be responsible for other Breaking and Entering’s in the area. As this is an ongoing and active investigation, we will be releasing information as it becomes available. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the New Buffalo Police Department at (269) 469-1593. Police are asking all residents to be alert to suspicious activity in the City.

Introducing Richard ("Rich") Killips, Chief of Police The City of New Buffalo is excited to welcome our new Chief of Police, Rich Killips. His official start date was Tuesday, February 20, 2018, but he has already made substantial contributions to the Police Department and the City’s administration. Rich was born and raised here in New Buffalo and previously worked for the City’s Police Department. His extensive experience encompasses 24 years in SW Michigan including 6-1/2 years with the Pokagon Band Tribal Police. We look forward to working closely with our new Police Chief as he brings a “new direction” to the City’s Police Department and a fresh vision to the fabric of the community.

*********************PRESS RELEASE******************** On 2/28/18 at approximately 0318hrs, New Buffalo City Police were dispatched to Knoll Brothers Gas station in New Buffalo City for a breaking and entering. When police arrived, they found that a person or persons had broken in to the gas station. Investigators from the New Buffalo City Police Department worked the crime scene and gathered evidence. The police department will be working closely with its law enforcement partners to resolve the incident. Investigation so far, has shown that at approximately 1245hrs, one (1) subject, broke through an exterior wall and stole an undisclosed amount of US currency. This is currently an open investigation, and no additional information is available at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the New Buffalo Police Department at (269) 469-1593 or Berrien County Dispatch at 866-630-7679. Police are asking all residents to be alert to suspicious activity in the City. “IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.”

New Buffalo is currently facing white out conditions and heavy blowing and drifting snow. Multiple accidents and vehicles off the roadway. It is highly recommended that you stay off the roadway and out of the elements. Stay warm, get a (DD) designated driver, and Have a safe New Year!!

The tradition continues with Santa and his Elf, Officer Mike Cluster as they visit with local grade schoolers as they decorate the tree in City Hall.

Today we are saddened by the loss of a Hero. Vinny was an amazing fire fighter, and an even more amazing person. NBPD is sending our thoughts and prayers out to the Lauricella family, friends, And the New Buffalo City Fire Department. He leaves behind a legacy that will never be filled. Rest Easy Hero.

Over the weekend of August 18th -20th New Buffalo City Police Officers were notified of approximately ten (10) motor vehicles that had been broken into sometime between the hours of midnight and 3am. The vehicles were located in various neighborhoods throughout the City. The vehicles were all left unlocked by owners, and it appears the suspect(s) took loose currency and various other items. It was reported that other vehicles had been ransacked, but nothing was reported to be missing. They wanted police to be aware of it. New Buffalo City Police are again reminding homeowners lock the doors to their vehicles, homes, and any out buildings on their properties, and to report any suspicious activity or people in your neighborhood to the New Buffalo City Police Department, at 269-469-1593.

New Buffalo City Beach is still experiencing life threatening water conditions. We are flying double red flags and recommending people to be safe when visiting our beach.

New Buffalo City Fire Department will be testing the Early warning/Tornado siren today August 5th at 1pm.
