Vicksburg Police Department News

Here is Officer Kite spending time at one of our schools during the morning drop off. What a great way to build relationships with the children of our community. A great picture that speaks volumes! Thank you for sharing.

NOTICE FROM THE VICKSBURG POLICE: Please be sure to lock your vehicles and bring inside any valuables therein as we had someone walking around checking vehicle door handles Monday night/Tuesday morning in attempts to gain entry and possibly steal items. This occurred on the northwest side of the Village. There was one larceny from a motor vehicle reported. The Vicksburg police officers are currently investigating this incident. If you see anyone suspicious in your neighborhood please call the police and let them know.

exciting news for Vicksburg!

Vicksburg Police Department participated in 2017 TOP (Tourniquet on Person) Initiative and train the trainer program in partnership with the Eric Zapata Foundation, and MI-CIS Department of Emergency Medicine Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. This program is designed to get tourniquets on our officers in case they are needed to save their lives, or the lives of any member of our community. Since the training program began there are 57 TOP Field Trainers throughout West Michigan. Your own Vicksburg Officer Kite is one of these trainers. All of the officers at VPD received these holsters. The Eric Zapata Foundation has spent over $20,000 on holsters that were distributed to departments that attended this training in 2017.

Happy Holidays from your Vicksburg Police Department. We hope you enjoy time with family and friends.

Today at Vicksburg High School machine tool program students completed these plaques of the Vicksburg Police Department patch. This is an awesome program and when they were looking for a project School Resource Officer Kite was able to assist.

Vicksburg Police hosted “Shop with a Hero” last evening shopping with three children from the Vicksburg area. Once the shopping was complete, Chief Scott Sanderson, Officer Henry Kite, Officer Guthrie and Officer Skidmore helped the kids wrap their presents to take home. A special thanks to Angie Guthrie, Heather Kite and Renee Sanderson for all the help. Also, to Meijers and to the anonymous donor who made the generous donation with which the kids purchased the presents. It was a great event to be a part of.

Chief Sanderson and Officer Kite represented the Village of Vicksburg Police Department at the 85th KVCC Police Cadet Graduation. Congratulations to the future of law enforcement. We wish them all the best!

Officer Kite was interviewed on News 3 for the Shop With a Hero Event.

The 2017 Shop with a hero program was a success. Vicksburg officers Kite and Guthrie donated their time to shop with kids from the South County area. Meijer sponsors a gift card and hosts the event every year. It's great to see the smiles all around. Watch the local news tonight for a story on this event.

What an awesome event and parade. Thanks to the Vicksburg community for coming out and making everything a success.

Please be aware and vigilant during this holiday season.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Happy Halloween from Vicksburg Police Department. Just a reminder to be observant driving through the Village tonight as there will be numerous trick or treaters out. Activities start at 5pm and end at 8 pm.

While returning back to the Village of Vicksburg from the courthouse in Kalamazoo, our officer noticed a stranded motorist at the intersection of Kilgore Rd. And Lovers Ln. The two teenagers were unsure what to do, so out of concern for their safety, at this very busy intersection. Your VPD officer stopped to assist with pushing their vehicle off the roadway, to a safe location in a nearby parking lot.

Proof that Vicksburg officers give their blood, sweat, and tears to the community, even on their days off. Come down to the Vicksburg High school band room before 7pm to donate. MI blood saves lives!

Today while on patrol I found these awesome ladies selling some of the best sun tea that I've ever had. They were excited to have their pictures taken as well. It was only 75 cents for this delightful drink. Of course I had to tip $9.25 for the service with a smile. Vicksburg Police Department is always happy to support future entrepreneurs.

Last night from 6 p.m. 12 a.m. Vicksburg police officers assisted as role players for the current Police Academy at KVCC. This is a way Vicksburg Police Department can give back to the community Through training the next generation of police officers, and possibly future police officers in the Village of Vicksburg.

Yesterday school resource Officer Kite, after months of coordinating with Vicksburg Schools and Michigan State Police, was able to bring in 3 separate K-9 units (Marshall, Niles, and Paw Paw) to do a 2nd scheduled sweep of the high school. The dogs are trained to detect explosives, weapons, and illegal substances. After the dogs were done working, they were able to visit with students and staff at the high school. There was no sweep at the middle school, but the students there also enjoyed a visit with the dogs as superintendent Charles Glaes thought that would be a positive experience. Thank you to our neighboring communities for letting us borrow their K-9 units. Vicksburg Police Department and Vicksburg Community Schools are dedicated to working together to keep your children safe.

We are always happy to serve. This was posted to Facebook today. These are some of the comments that make it all worth while.

VPD received a call that there was a vicious animal in the Centennial Plat this morning. We responded and can say that the case is closed, and the animal was apprehended. Thanks for the hard work Officer Guthrie!!!! Check out that awesome tan Officer Guthrie is sporting.

Officer Kite was invited to read a story to the kids at Tobey Elementary for Reading Night. The kids enjoyed hearing him read about the exploits of Officer Buckle and his dog, Gloria.

Building relationships one smile at a time. Today officer Kite was arrested (With tape handcuffs) by Sam at the Vicksburg Middle School. He was then escorted to jail ( the closet). I believe Sam stated the offense was driving. Awesome community we are lucky to be a part of.
