The Clinton Township Police Department is investigating a serious injury crash involving a maroon 2004 Dodge Caravan and a silver 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The crash occurred around 0820 hours on Friday September 29th, 2017.
Preliminary investigation indicates the Dodge Caravan was behind a Dodge Durango as both were traveling west bound on Clinton River Road near 17 mile rd. The Trailblazer was east bound Clinton River Road and for an unknown reason began to drive left of the center line. The Durango observed the Trailblazer and drove off the roadway to avoid a head on collision, but the Caravan wasn’t able to avoid the collision. The vehicles struck just about head on prior to coming to an uncontrolled rest. Both drivers were injured in the crash. The driver of the Trailblazer, a 18 y/o W/M from Sterling Heights, remained on scene until emergency services arrived. The driver of the Caravan, a 46 y/o from Sterling Heights, suffered severe injuries and was in and out of consciousness. Both names are being withheld pending further investigation.
The 46 y/o suffered a broken arm, shattered leg, and a collapsed lung. He is being sedated at a nearby hospital. The 18 y/o had already been released from the hospital.
Drugs and/or Alcohol may have been involved in the crash, which we are currently investigating.
Clinton River Road is a curvy asphalt roadway with the posted speed limit of 40 mph.
