Good evening citizens! We hope everyone had a fantastic Summer this year! Now that we are approaching Fall, and getting back into the swing of school, we thought it would be a great time to wish everyone a safe and successful school year. While we are regularly patrolling the school zones when we can; the month of October will bring added patrols to school zones due to a traffic grant program focused on these areas. So lets all do our part out there to make sure our kids have a safe drop-off/pick-up at all of our wonderful Riverview Schools! Thank You

Today we remember those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terror attacks and honor the brave men and women who responded.

Welcome to Spring everyone... April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month Myths… Myth: Drivers can multitask without worry of being involved in a crash. Myth: Talking on a cell phone is just like speaking to a passenger. Myth: Speaking into a hands free device is safe to do when driving. Myth: I only use my cell phone at stop lights, so it’s OK. Myth: Voice-to-text is safe to do while driving. In 2015, crashes involving drivers less than 20 years old have increased. Sixteen year old driver crashes increased 5% in Michigan, and ages 15 and younger are up 4%. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 94% of car crashes are the result of driver error. In 2015, there was a total of 297,023 crashes in Michigan, of those crashes, 893 were fatal. This is an 11% increase from 2014. Riverview Residents.... By now you've seen the postings on Facebook alleging there were shootings at both Memorial and Riverview High School. Let me assure you there have been absolutely no reports of shooting nor of "shots fired". These calls are fake. Both locations have been checked and everyone there or who was there is fine. We've made contact with Metro Church and have assured them there is no current/active threats. As for police officers at Memorial School. Yes there were three of us there to discuss safe schools and the school district's accreditation process. If there were an active threat, a city alert would have been sent. Resident and visitor safety is the police departments utmost concern. We will investigate these fake claims of shootings and if charges are in order, rest assured we will seek them. A big thank you to Handcrafted and supporters for the treats on Valentine's Day! It was very thoughtful and much appreciated!

Riverview Residents. The City Manager has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY from 10 pm tonight through noon 12/12/2016. ALL cars are to be moved off the street. DPW will be plowing through the night to clear all roads. Cars that are NOT moved will be cited and towed.

Residents, We were able to enjoy the nice weather for a while, all good things come to an end.... of sorts.. Now we deal with colder temperatures.....and yes....snow. Please keep an eye on the weather channels this weekend, sounds like were going to get some accumulation! In Riverview, if there is an accumulation of 5 inches or more of snow, a snow emergency may be put into effect. When a snow emergency has been declared, you have 1 hour to move your cars off the street. Be prepared to put your cars in the driveway so the DPW can plow curb to curb if a snow emergency is declared. Stay warm, be prepared, stay safe.

Dear Facebook friends, There is a Toys for Tots drop off box located in the lobby of the police department. Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The mission of the program "is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted." The stated goal is to "deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens." Individual family applications can be picked up at the police desk and need to be mailed by the 9th. Our location's toys will be picked up on either the 12th, 13th or 14th. Jerry's Ace Hardware in Wyandotte and Al Petri & Son's bicycle in Woodhaven are final toy drop off locations. They will collect until the 17th. The lobby is open 24/7 for anyone who may be interested. Thank you!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wayne State University Officer and his family who was shot in the line of duty earlier today.

Parcel packages are most vulnerable when left unattended at the home. With internet shipping increasing daily, more and more parcel packages are stolen by thieves who follow delivery trucks and steal unattended packages. Over the last couple of weeks there was an increase in parcels stolen in several of our apartment complexes. With the holidays around the corner; please take extra care in safeguarding your packages. If they give a desired delivery time please be home to receive the package Insure all packages of value. Or the alternative pick the package up at delivery service office. Report any suspicious activity to police immediately.

Here are a couple more still photographs from the armed robbery that occurred at the Circle K. Any information would be greatly appreciated and can be called in to dispatch at 734-281-4222 or the Detective Bureau at 734-281-4214
