As we enjoy this Labor Day Weekend we remind you that with this weekend coming to an end it starts the 2017/2018 School Year, Yes kids its the taboo First day of school!! With the start of the school year brings an increase of vehicle and pedestrian traffic in and around the area. This includes those BIG yellow buses. These buses will be out there with there bright flashing lights and the big red stop arms picking up and dropping off OUR kids. We would like to remind everyone that when the bright flashing lights and big red stop arm is extended you need to STOP so OUR kids can either get on or off the bus safely. It is a CRIME to not stop for the stop arms. Baxter Police will have extra patrols and enforcement in and around the City of Baxter. So please slow down and pay attention and lets make this a great and safe school your for OUR kids. Enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend. Travel Safe.-Ofc Visser

Move Over for Flashing Lights — It’s the Law Emergency responders working on the shoulder of the road have got your back. Do you have theirs? Minnesota’s Ted Foss Move Over Law was named in honor of State Patrol trooper Ted Foss who was killed while conducting a traffic stop on the shoulder of I-90 in Winona in 2000 . The law states: -When traveling on a road with two or more lanes, drivers must keep over one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights activated — ambulance, fire, law enforcement, maintenance, construction vehicles and tow trucks. -Reduce speed if unable to safely move over a lane. -Failing to take these actions endangers personnel who provide critical and life-saving services. Fines can exceed $100. On 8/31/2017, the Baxter Police Department will be teaming up with area Law Enforcment Agencies to enforce and educate motorists of the "Ted Foss Move Over Law." Please help us spread the word by sharing this post. Hopefully it will remind everyone and educate drivers who are unfamiliar with the law. Drive safe and have a great Labor Day! Sgt. Matt Maier
