West St Paul Police Department News

Last month we participated in the “Hispanic – Latino Social Responsibility and Innovation Lab”. It was a great opportunity to create an open dialog between the Latino community and our Police Department. We had a great time and look forward to working together again soon!

SNOW EMERGENCY 🚨 PLEASE HAVE ALL CARS MOVED OFF ALL SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTES BY 2am. ALL OTHER STREETS NEED TO BE CLEAR BY 8am. Your cooperation helps us and our plow drivers clean up as best we can. Officers will be out tagging and towing vehicles starting at 2am. Thank you for all your help! More info here! http://wspmn.gov/AlertCenter.aspx?AID=Snow-Emergency-11418-17

Heads up WSP!! Tonight we are hosting a traffic safety detail in town. What does that mean?? It means we will have Officers from all over Dakota County here in WSP doing increased traffic enforcement. Check back tonight on twitter for a virtual ride along during this detail!

We had lot of fun in 2017 being your Police Department and want to make sure we continue that in 2018. We strive to create strong community relationship and would like your input on the best ways to achieve that! We love our community events such as Coffee with a Cop, C.O.P.S. in the park, our school supply drive and giveaway, Junior SWAT School and Heroes and Helpers. Please give us your feedback on what we did that was successful in 2017 and what new things you would like to see from us in 2018. Feel free to comment below or private message us. We already have a few new ideas for 2018 and can’t wait to see what you guys think!!

Join us out at Harmon Park ice rink for a fun filled game of outdoor hockey with members of the Police and Fire Departments. Participants can warm up after the game in the warming house with hot cocoa and cookies. All participants must bring their own hockey equipment, skates and hockey stick. FREE EVENT! Open to all ages and skill levels!

We asked our officers to volunteer to film a promo for our upcoming Hockey with a Cop event. We just assumed those that volunteered knew how to play... Officer McCarty’s performance on the ice reminded us to never assume. Join us January 20th- 10am at Harmon Park for a fun pickup game of hockey or skate around with us! All ages and skill levels are invited (even McCarty).

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Make sure you plan for a sober ride before you head out the door to ring in the new year!

If you know of someone needing shelter over the weekend to get out of the cold, contact #MatrixEmergencyShelter at 651-319-2153. They are available 24 hours a day through Tuesday! #staywarm #staysafe

It's cold outside, and this weekend is going to be even colder! Here are a few extreme cold weather safety tips to help keep everyone safe!

YOU GUYS!!! 5000 LIKES!!!!!!! We want to thank each and every one of you for helping make this page possible! We are so glad to be your Police Department!

Merry Christmas West St Paul! We hope everyone is having a safe and cozy holiday filled with family friends, and lots of cookies!

As we start the holiday weekend, make sure you plan for a sober ride home before heading out the door. It could save a life. There will be extra DWI enforcement on the weekends through December 30. Everyone be safe and have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Claus who stopped by today with some delicious treats!

Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters at the Dakota County Sheriff's Office on the loss of one of their own. Please keep them and Sergeant Steel’s family in your thoughts.

We are approaching Christmas crunch time! Package thefts are on the rise so don't let the Grinch spoil your holiday prep! Make sure someone is home to collect any deliveries, have them dropped at a neighbor’s house who will be home, or have them delivered to a back door.

We have been lucky enough this year to not have had a significant snow fall …. YET! Now is the perfect time to refresh everyone on the snow emergency rules to avoid a ticket or tow. A snow emergency is triggered when we receive a snow fall over 2.5 inches. This means no parking on all snow emergency routes after 2am and no parking on all other streets after 8am. To find out if your street is on a snow emergency route, check out our website - http://wspmn.gov/600/Snow-Plowing-Ordinance You can also sign up to receive text or email notification once a snow emergency has been declared. Follow the link to sign up now! http://wspmn.gov/list.aspx We appreciate everyone’s help keeping the streets clean!!

So glad we got to be apart of this once again! Our Police Reserve Officers delivered several squads full of toys that you all donated!!

THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our coat drive. Because of you, we were able to provide warm weather wear to over 200 people at Heroes and Helpers, Neighbors, Inc., 360 Communities, and placeofhopemn.org. A special thank you to Sportsman's Guide for their HUGE Donation to our cause! You rock WSP!

Mark your calendars!

Our donation box is overflowing but we always have room for more! This is the last week of our Toys for Tots Campaign and we are still in need of more toys!! New unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the lobby of City Hall all week!!

Our #HerosandHelpers #ShopWithaCop event on Sunday was awesome!! Thank you to Dunham's Bar and Restaurant, South Robert Street Business Association, Independent School District 197, and D.T. Meisinger Development for helping to make it such a great event! A HUGE thank you to Target Store West-St-Paul for hosting the event, and for having staff available to help! Thank you to Saint Paul Winter CarnivalRoyalty and Saint Paul Vulcans for taking time out of their busy day to stop by and see the kids! Lastly, thank you to South Metro Fire for participating and shopping with all of the kids!

CALL if you can – Text if you CAN’T You may have recently seen on the news that you can now text 911 in Minnesota if you are experiencing an emergency but not able to make a phone call. This is a great option for those who are deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing or in a situation that would make talking on the phone more dangerous. The Dakota Communications Center, which handles all emergency 911 calls for our county, is not set up to receive text messages to 911 … yet. If you find yourself in a situation that does not allow you to call 911 but you still need emergency services, you can still text 911. Those texts will be sent to the Hennepin County Dispatch Center who will then relay the information to our dispatch center. So remember Text-to-911 – CALL if you can. Text if you CAN’T

As the holiday shopping season continues, remember that the lobby of the Police Department is a Safe Swap Spot! This is the perfect place to make exchanges from online purchases (Facebook/Craigslist/etc.) and has 24 hour video surveillance.
