As it gets colder outside, this is a friendly reminder to take your car keys with you. Please don't be a victim to theft this winter by leaving your vehicle running with the keys in the ignition. Here is the city code for reference:
1320.27. Unattended motor vehicles. Subdivision 1. General rule. No person shall leave a motor vehicle unattended anywhere within the city without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition and removing all keys therefrom; provided that any violation of these provisions shall not be used to affect a recovery in a civil action for theft or unlawful possession of such motor vehicle, or any insurances thereon or be cited or in any way considered to have any other bearing in any civil action involving such vehicle. This provision shall not be construed to prohibit the operator of any unattended motor vehicle from leaving such keys therein if the operation of the engine is necessitated or occasioned by weather or other similar conditions or emergencies and if all vehicle doors and windows are locked.
