On 11/05/2017 an Asset Protection Associate reported a black male wearing a red hat and white shirt entered the jewelry department of Walmart. The suspect selected several rings from the display case and then ran out of the store failing to pay for the rings. FATALITY ACCIDENT BUTLER COUNTY TROOP E OFFICERS ARE ON SCENE OF A FATALITY ACCIDENT ON MO 53 AT ROUTE UU, IN BUTLER COUNTY. MO 53 IS TEMPORARILY BLOCKED AND WILL REMAIN BLOCKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. TRAFFIC IS GOING TO BE DIVERTED ONTO ADJOINING COUNTY ROADS. MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS EN ROUTE TO ASSIST WITH THE TRAFFIC DIVERSION. THE ACCIDENT INVOLVES A COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE AND A PASSENGER CAR. THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE HAS LEAKED APPROXIMATELY 130 GALLONS OF DIESEL ONTO THE ROADWAY. DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND HAS PERSONNEL EN ROUTE TO THE SCENE.

Chief Danny Whiteley was honored to sit on a discussion panel at today's Missouri Opioid Summit, held at Bishop Ron Webb's, Mount Calvary Powerhouse Church. The summit speakers included Dr. Randall Williams, Director of the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services, Special Agent in Charge of the St. Louis DEA Office, Agent L.J. Reavis, and Representative Todd Richardson. The summit brought together state and local experts in law enforcement, healthcare, education, and others to discuss the ongoing crisis of opioid abuse that's plaguing our nation. D.M./#237

On 10/15/2017 the Poplar Bluff Police Department received a theft complaint at Walmart. According to the employee on 10/14/2017 at approximately 1320 hours two black males entered the store and stole $3,621.49 in merchandise and prepaid Visa cards by defrauding the cashier. Mr. Rick is wanted in connection with a stabbing investigation and should be considered armed and dangerous. In the coming months, city residents will be receiving a visit from work crews from Anixter, a company contracting with the Poplar Bluff Municipal Utilities to trade current electric meters to a new more advanced meter. The workers will be in white vans, wearing an ID. They will attempt to advise the resident just prior to changing out the equipment but will conduct the meter trade during their visit. The power outage will last 5-10 seconds. D.M./#237

On Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Poplar Bluff Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public its 14th opportunity in 7 years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the Poplar Bluff Police Station at 1111 Poplar St. (The DEA cannot accept needles or sharps, only pills, or patches.) Poplar Bluff Police Department’s K9s Kane & Loco have received body armor Poplar Bluff Police Department’s K9s Kane & Loco have received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vests were sponsored by PetArmor and Walmart and embroidered with the sentiment “Protection provided by PetArmor & Walmart”. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 2,600 protective vests in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of over 2.1 million dollars. The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. The “C” Street Railroad Crossing in East Poplar Bluff will be closed to all traffic beginning October 2, 2017 for track crossing improvements. The closure is expected to last one month.

Photographs of a white male and white female identified as persons of interest in the theft were attached to this post. The two left the store in a gold four door passenger vehicle.
