Come by the lobby of the Poplar Bluff Police Department and take the disposal bags home with you. A few simple steps and you can safely throw your medications in your trash. At approximately 11:53 a.m., the Poplar Bluff Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1620 South 11th Street. Since that time, crews have been working to extinguish the blaze. The origin of the fire is unknown but the building is a total loss. Members of the Poplar Bluff Fire Department, Poplar Bluff Police Department and Missouri State Fire Marshal's office are on scene and investigating. Residents are urged to avoid the area. (JS/239)

The Poplar Bluff Police Department utilizes Facebook often in our daily operations. The Poplar Bluff Animal Control division also maintains a page of their own. Their use of Facebook to network with Rescues and other shelters has resulted in more than a 97% decrease in the shelters euthanization rate of unwanted dogs and cats. Hot Weather Tips for Pets: The following guidelines will help you protect your companion animals during the Summer months: 1. Never leave your pet in a parked car. Even with the window cracked, temperatures inside the car quickly rise to dangerous levels. 2. Don't exercise with your pet when it's too hot. 3. Don't take your pet to crowded events. 4. Eskridge has moved from his registered address without reporting his new address to the Butler County Sheriff's Office. John E Bryeans (48, of Poplar Bluff) moved from his residence on April 3, and did not report his new address to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. Poplar Bluff Police Department Press Release- Immeidate Release On 04/07/2018 Officer Zack Tubb contacted Tyler Scott Wangler at the corner of Henry and Thomas Streets in reference to an active warrant for his arrest. After placing Wangler under arrest for the outstanding warrant, Officer Tubb located a handgun in the backpack which Wangler had been carrying. Also in Wangler's possession was a set of keys which were confirmed to belong to a stolen vehicle taken from a residence in Butler County. Wangler was lodged in the Butler County Justice Center on a charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and an outstanding warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with a $10,000 bond. Federal charges are being sought for the firearms possession. D.M./#237

*SCAM* The Poplar Bluff Police Department received a report from a local business owner who received a call from a subject claiming to be with Municipal Utilites. The subject advised there was a past due bill and attempted to make payment arrangements. Be aware this is a scam and this is not an employee with Municipal Utilities. A past due notice will only be mailed to you.
