Due to recent false posts on social media relating to the wastewater treatment facility of the City of Doniphan, we feel it necessary to make a short statement to the public regarding these fallacies. The wastewater treatment plant was not breeched by the recent flooding nor has it ever been flooded. Riverfront Park is currently closed due to an elevated E. coli count in soils and will remain closed to all public until continued soil testing results reveal a normal condition. Flood waters can and do contain many contaminants from various sources including many harmful bacteria, both naturally occurring and from septic systems that were destroyed along the river. The City of Doniphan will continue testing the soils in Riverfront Park and will advise the public when conditions appear to be safe. Please understand that public safety is the primary objective of City officials and we look forward to opening the park for summer leagues as quickly as possible.
