The Petal School District has been informed of social media posts that mention possible threats to Petal High School. We are actively investigating all possible scenarios through our own police force and with the cooperation of local law enforcement. Additional precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of all students and staff on all campuses. We will have additional uniformed officers on all campuses beginning tomorrow – Monday February 19th. Unfortunately, social media posts which cannot be verified are causing miscommunication and heightened anxiety among students and parents. We appreciate your cooperation in NOT posting comments or sharing information that cannot be confirmed. We are searching for the individual(s) responsible for originating the posts that are currently being shared. If you have any information regarding who posted information about possible threats, or information pertinent to the safety of our schools, please contact the Petal School District Police Department at 601-554-7260, the Petal Police Department, the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office or the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law any individual found to be posting threats to our school district. We ask that you please help us in combating social media issues which affect our school culture. As always, the protection, safety and security of all students and staff is our top priority.
