Traffic Tip Thursday from the Cornelius Police Department: We are one week away from the Bicycle, Pedestrian and Motorist educational event hosted by the CPD Traffic Safety Unit! Join us on Thursday, November 16 from 6:30pm-8:00pm fror an educational program in partnership with the NCDOT Watch 4 ME NC Bicycle/ Pedestrian Safety Program. The event will take place in the Community Room of Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave. The program is open to the public and free to attend. The Traffic Safety Unit will provide attendees with information and laws that will help everyone better navigate the roadways and better understand the often asked question, "Who has the right of way". The educational program will cover the responsibilities of the bicyclist, pedestrian and motorist in regards to bicycle/pedestrian safety, in hope of creating a safer environment for all who travel the roadways of Cornelius and throughout North Carolina. No Shave November Week 1 Update - Check out some of our officers helping to raise money for #warriorjace! To date we have raised over $1,200 to support Jace Thompson, son of Cornelius Police Department Captain Jennifer Thompson and North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sergeant Eric Thompson. On October 25, 2017, 4 year old Jace was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumor. CPD is assisting with fundraising efforts to support the Thompsons as they seek medical treatment. Officers are donating $40 to be allowed to grow facial hair, waving the department's grooming policy. Operation Medicine Drop Today! Saturday, October 28th from 10:00am to 2:00pm, the Cornelius Police Department will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Cornelius Town Hall Parking Lot, 21445 Catawba Ave. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Press Release - Cornelius Police Arrest Larceny Suspects On Thursday, October 26, 2017 the Cornelius Police Department arrested Rodger Dale Knox, III (W/M DOB 8/9/81) and Catherine Helene Lassiter (W/F DOB 3/24/1982) in connection with multiple reported larcenies of equipment from landscapers. Knox was charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny, felony breaking and entering motor vehicle, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and felony conspiracy. Lassiter was charged with felony breaking and entering motor vehicle, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, misdemeanor possession drug paraphernalia and felony conspiracy. Cornelius Police would like to thank the Town of Davidson, NC -- Town Hall Police Department for their assistance with this investigation.
