The East Cleveland Police Department will be kicking off two events that are both happening tomorrow. East Cleveland Police will be hosting their annual Shop With A Cop tomorrow from 10:00 A.M. till Noon. We will be taking selected children in need to the East Lake Walmart where they will be able to purchase presents. Officers find this rewarding every year, and it is touching that the majority of children are purchasing presents for their family members. The next event will be right in East Cleveland from 11:00 A.M. till 1 P.M. Secret Santa. Officers will be going through the community hand delivering presents to those that are less fortunate. Thanks to St Philomena Church, East Cleveland, Ohio for their generous donation of turkeys and toys for children. Our Community Policing Officers spent the morning going around the city handing them out.

We would like to thank C Platoon, under command of Sergeant DeLisle for the apprehension of Ezekiel Abernathy. On May 14th Mr. Aberthnay carjacked a vehicle from an 81-year-old male. Excellent job C Platoon for your efforts!

Euclid and Ivanhoe are now open.

On October 30, 2017, at around 8:15 P.M. Uniformed Officers, while patrolling, heard several gunshots in the area of Rosedale. Uniformed officers responded mid-block Rosedale where they discovered an unresponsive male, who succumbed because of apparent gunshot wounds. The identification of the male is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

UPDATE Mr. Merlin Johnson was apprehended this morning with the assistance of the US Marshall Service. ____________________________________________ We are asking the public's assistance in locating Merlin Johnson AKA Marion in reference to the homicide that occurred on Thursday, October 26th. Updated. $1,000 cash reward for infromation leading to his capture. Your information will remain confidential.

PRESS RELEASE On Thursday, October 26th, at around 12:21 A.M. Uniformed Officers were dispatched to the area of Manhatten and Orinoco for a male that was asleep at the wheel. When Officers arrived, they discovered the male was a victim of a gunshot wound. East Cleveland EMS was dispatched and transported the male to University Hospital. The male succumbed to his injuries and passed away at 02:42 A.M. The male's identity is being held pending notification of his next of kin. We would also like to thank all of the media for following this and helping us to get this done. At around 08:00 A.M. Uniformed officers were dispatched to the area of Hayden and Elsinore reference a young child that was walking on the street wearing only a shirt. Uniformed officers arrived and were able to determine that the child was four years old. The child was able to tell us that he has other siblings. The child has communicated a name of Marion as a possible relative. We ask anyone with information to please contact the East Cleveland Police Department at 216-451-1234.

National Night Out Softball Game

At about 3:30 A.M., Uniformed Officers were called reference a vehicle that was fully engulfed in fire at Gainsboro and E. 133. East Cleveland Fire and Police responded. Upon distinguishing the fire, it was learned that there was a body located in the vehicle. The State Fire Marshall's Office was contacted along with Ohio Attorney General's B.C.I. to assist with crime scene processing. It is too early in the investigation to know a cause of death, but the vehicle will be towed to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office for processing. The body in the vehicle was too badly burned to make any tentative identification. Anyone with any possible information is asked to contact the East Cleveland Detective Bureau with any possible tips. At 3:33 P.M. Uniformed Officers were dispatched to the 1200 Block of Carlyon reference a male shot. East Cleveland EMS were also dispatched and transported the 17-year-old male to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Anyone with information is asked to contact the East Cleveland Detective Bureau at 216-681-2162 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously with any information of the crime.
