The Deshler Police would like to remind residence to be on the look out for scams. The department has received numerous complaints on scams involving utilities. The scammer will call and stated that your utilities will be shut off in a certain amount of time if a late balance is not paid. Most say the utilities will be shut off in 45min. After this they try to obtain personal information through the phone. PLEASE do not give out any personal information, including banking information over the phone. All utilities will give numerous warnings before shutting off anything. You will receive letters in the mail, stating the shut off of such utilities. Just remember, all utilities are handled by the village and are not contracted out to other companies. Please be mindful of this and pass the word on, so we can help eliminate the possibility of having victims fall for this and other scams. If there are any doubts at all, please contact us immediately.
