"The Ravenna Police Assn receives donations for its annual Shop with a Cop program throughout the year. Some large and some small, but each and every one is greatly appreciated and all of them go to helping make a child's Christmas a little brighter. This year we have received one of the most unique donations we have received in the 19 years we have been doing the program. Amanda Tidwell, Co-Owner of the Picture Place, recently organized a bus trip to New York City, with proceeds from the trip being donated to our Shop with a Cop program. Pictured is Amanda Tidwell from the Picture Place presenting a donation to Ravenna Police Association President Dustin Svab in front of Grand Central Station in New York City. Thank you to Amanda and our friends at the Picture Place.

The Ravenna Police Association extends it's thanks to Bill Lucas and the Wagon Wheel Saloon of Randolph for their $2000 donation toward the Association's annual Shop With A Cop event. Pictured in the photo are Mike Stankiewicz from Portage County FOP Lodge #70, Bill Lucas from the Wagon Wheel Saloon and a member of Portage County FOPA Lodge #9, and Capt. Jeff Wallis of the Ravenna Police Department. This year's Shop With A Cop event will take place this Saturday, December 10, 2016 starting at 10am at the Kent/Ravenna WalMart located on SR 59. The Police Association accepts donations for the event year round. For more information contact any member of the Association by calling 330.296.6486 and asking for an Association Member.

Update on Henderson Rd. shooting ... At 2:23pm Police and EMS responded to a reported shooting on Henderson Rd. in Ravenna Township. Reports indicated an armed suspect fled the area on foot. Due to the proximity of the incident location to the Ravenna High School the Schools were placed on immediate lockdown. Due to the fact the incident occurred at the time school usually lets out, some students had already left the building and/or were on buses heading home. As of 3:00pm the lockdown was lifted after law enforcement officials cleared the immediate area. Law enforcement officers along with school officials are escorting students to their vehicles. Buses, which were initially instructed to stop their routes and take students to a safe location have resumed dropping off students at their stops. All students and school staff are safe. Some students, particularly those riding buses, may be delayed in getting home. The school administrators did an outstanding job of immediately enacting established procedures, locking down the buildings, and protecting our students. Law enforcement officials remain in the area. Portage County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation into the shooting. Any additional information will be available through the Portage County Sheriff's Office. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The school lockdown has been lifted.
