Tiffin Police Department News

Happy Birthday Ohio! Congrats on becoming the 17th state!

The police department is seeking witnesses to a traffic crash that occurred last night, 2/21/18, on Chestnut St., at approximately 11:30 PM. If you have any information about the crash, contact Sgt. Feld at (419) 447 - 2323.

I’m very proud of the officers on third shift tonight. Two suspects resisted arrest hours apart and the officers used the minimal amount of force needed to make an arrest without injuring officers or the suspects. Even after being in two physical altercations in one night, the same officers showed tremendous heart when confronted with an autistic juvenile out wandering away from home while his parents were asleep. Ofc. England (pictured) walked with the juvenile (and even shared his flashlight!) from Greenfield St. near Berg Stadium all the way to Summit St. and Hancock St. while Ofc. Illig picked up the kid’s mom and brought her to them. The last thing an officer wants to do is grab an autistic child by force. Great job! ~ Sgt. DeMonte Edit: it was 24 degrees outside when I took this picture.

Another visit from some very nice and generous people! This has become a yearly thing with this group. Thank you for all of the support and thank you for thinking of us....

A great big thank you to the Tiffin Citizen's Academy Alumni for the goodies. They dropped off tons of treats for our officers this evening. It was a tough week for officers across the nation and we truly appreciate all you do for this department and our community.

Unexpected, but much appreciated, visit from the Tiffin University Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society. The president of the organization along with the faculty adviser showed up bearing gifts for the officers and dispatchers! Thank you for thinking of us and hope to see you in the criminal justice field soon...~Chief

Teens 12 and up check this place out after school....

An officer killed on duty is a loss for the whole community and something no community should have to go through. Westerville lost two in one incident so it is doubly painful...~Chief

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Westerville Police Department family in Columbus where two officers were shot and killed this morning in the line of duty. These two officers gave the ultimate sacrifice protecting and serving their community. Their families will never be the same again.

Just a reminder, there are only a few days left to turn in applications for this year's citizen's police academy. There were a few applications picked up that haven't been turned in yet. In case you missed the original post: The Tiffin Police Department is now accepting applications for its sixth annual Citizen’s Police Academy. The Tiffin Police Department Citizen’s Academy is for area citizens who are interested in learning more about how their police department operates and the policing challenges our community faces. The Academy training will consist of classroom and “hands on” training, with emphasis on student involvement. The program is designed to develop positive relations between the police and the community through education. The Academy will begin Tuesday, March 13th, 2018. Classes will be held for eleven consecutive weeks, every Tuesday evening, from 7:00 PM until 9:30 PM. Graduation will be held on May 22nd, 2018. Participation requires a commitment to attend all of the class dates. Classes will be held in the Tiffin Police Department training room. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Ohio driver’s license or ID card. Applicants should reside, work, or own a business within the City of Tiffin and agree to a background check. If you are interested in participating in the Citizen Academy, please pickup an application packet at the Tiffin Police Department, 51 E. Market St., Tiffin, Ohio. Class size is limited to 18 students. The deadline to turn in completed applications is February 13th, 2018. Please contact Sgt. Jared Watson at 419-447-2323 or email jmwatson@tiffinohio.gov with any questions.

Watch the weather overnight people. As always drive carefully and please don't park in the downtown snow emergency area (posted throughout the whole downtown area) so the plows can quickly get the snow removed from our main thoroughfares....

Looks like a repeat overnight....
