New Philadelphia Police Department News

This past Sunday, our department had the privilege of being joined by Hailey Domer as an honorary Officer for the Day. Our department auctioned off a basket for the Barnett Realty "Wings of Hope Gala" to benefit Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County. In this basket was the opportunity to become an Officer for the day and join our men and women in blue. The winning bidder was Lucille Domer of New Philadelphia who is the grandmother to Hailey. On Sunday, our officers picked Hailey up at her residence and brought her to the police station to be issued her badge and given her tour of her new workplace. She was fed breakfast and spent some quality time with our dayshift crew learning about our profession and being shown the various pieces of equipment we use to do our job. After breakfast, Hailey had the privilege of riding with Auxiliary Officer Brian Klopfer as they led the Run for Home Half marathon through the cities of New Philadelphia and Dover. Hailey enjoyed thoroughly the opportunity to use the lights and siren in the cruiser during the duration of the race. She also got to wear the Chief Of Police official ballcap and my Oakley sunglasses. It was official, there was a new Chief in the city. After completion of her duties for the day, Hailey was given a multiple police car escort with lights and sirens to the Skate Place on Front Ave. There she was met by her friends and family to celebrate her 8th Birthday which just so happened to be on this day also. Hailey... we truly enjoyed spending the day with you and appreciate all of your hard work to keep this city safe. We hope you had a great 8th birthday party and enjoyed skating for the first time. Thank you for your interest in our profession and stop in anytime to see us again. Chief Michael Goodwin

Some of my new friends at West Elementary.

It has been brought to our attention that a message was posted and shared multiple times reference an incident that occurred at New Towne Mall. Two females advised that they were inside the mall shopping and were being followed by a group of males who were making lewd comments and gestures towards these females. These females did some shopping in Rue 21 inside the mall and had explained to the cashier what had happened. This unknown cashier proceeded to tell them that a similar incident had happened at the mall a few weeks ago and that our department officers responded. She went on to say that our officers detained this male subject and searched his vehicle and subsequently located rope, duct tape and Chloroform. This is absolutely untrue and no such incident took place. We just want to dispel any further rumors that may come about reference this statement made via Facebook. Our department works very closely with New Towne Mall Executives and Security to provide a safe, friendly and family-oriented shopping experience for all. We would just like to re-emphasize the importance of being aware of your surroundings any time you are in a public place. It is our recommendation that parents do not leave their children and belongings unattended. This not only applies to the mall but to any other place where there are people in which you do not know. Please share this post so we can hopefully dispel any further panic that the original post may have brought on. Captain Ty Norris

Last night the New Philadelphia police responded to a call of a B&E at the McDonald’s on 4th St. After a day of investigation and interviews our Detectives were able to obtain a confession and recovered nearly all of the money that was stolen. Charges are pending at this time. Thanks for all the assistance from the public. Chief Michael Goodwin
