This week is National Telecommunications Week. We want to thank our dispatchers at Clackamas 911 - CCOM, along with dispatchers throughout the nation. We don't always get to see them, but they are the calm voice on the other side of the radio when we need them most. THANK YOU!

The Molalla High School Leadership team stopped in today to thank all the officers for the job they do. Sgt. Chris Long was presented with a sign and treat bags with inspirational thoughts on them. It means so much to the officers to receive such positive feedback, especially from young people. The sign and goodies were put in our break room. THANKS AGAIN!!! We love our community.

Happy April Molalla! Please help us welcome a new officer to our family. On Monday, April 2, 2018 Michael Wakefield was sworn in by City Manager Dan Huff and Lt. Frank Schoenfeld. Officer Wakefield is a long-time Molalla resident, with many ties to the community, including being a volunteer firefighter at Molalla Fire Department. Michael replaces an officer who had recently left the agency. He will be with coaches for two weeks for orientation around town, give him a wave if you see him. Officer Wakefield will be attending the Basic Police Academy April 16th. Welcome aboard, Michael.

A SHARP EYE AND DILLIGENT INVESTIGATION LEADS TO THE RECOVERY OF A STOLEN CAR AND DRUGS SEIZED. Molalla Police Officer Rebecca Corwin, with assistance from Sgt. Bobby Call and deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest that lead to approximately one-half ounce of methamphetamine being seized and off Molalla City Streets. On 03/20/18 in the late evening, Officer Corwin located a stolen vehicle parked in front of a local business. After interviewing two people in the business and viewing surveillance footage, the two people were arrested. The driver of the vehicle; Kenneth A. Schoonover was arrested for POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, DISTRIBUTION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, AND POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE. Upon a search incident to arrest, approximately one-half ounce methamphetamine and a weight measuring device were found in his possession. The passenger; Efimia A. Mametieff was also arrested on two outstanding warrants. We want to recognize the effort put forth by the officer in spotting the vehicle and for conducting the investigation leading to the arrests. Way to go Officer Corwin and Sgt. Call!!

National Night Out 2018 This year, NNO will be held on Tuesday, August 7th from 5pm – 7:30pm located at Sally Fox Park (near library). The Molalla Police Department has organized this city-wide event starting in 2005. It’s with great excitement we are going to once again organize this amazing event and be back at Fox Park. As in years past, the theme of NNO for Molalla is Child Safety and Welfare. All participants are to have displays/demonstrations/handouts relating to that topic. We do not allow vendors or individuals to sell products or their services while at the event. However, participants may have business cards or handouts with contact information on it to promote their services/business at a later time. For example; if you were a clown, donating your time to be at NNO, you could pass out your card to interested parties, but your main purpose in being there is to entertain the children. Some of the current participants are; Molalla Fire Department, Molalla Communications (w/free bike helmets), CCSO Sheriff’s Posse, Clackamas County Animal Control, OR Dept. of Forestry (w/Smokey the bear), National Guard, school busses, Molalla Public Works (w/equipment), and many more! We are asking for help filling booths/displays meeting the previously described conditions. Everyone who participates does so on a voluntary basis, there is no compensation. Our crowds in the past have been as large as 700-800 people. Here is a specific list of who or what we are in need of: • Clown/balloon animals/face painter to provide free services to the general crowd. * Food vendors willing to donate a portion of the proceeds to our local Police Youth Fund. • Other groups that may want to help promote Child Safety and Welfare. This morning Molalla Police Department and crews from Molalla Fire came across two horses walking down W. Main St (Hwy 211) in Molalla. The horses were quickly corralled off the highway and returned to their owner.

Welcome Officer Brenner!!! On January 2, 2018 our newest officer, Jared Brenner joined our department. Officer Brenner will attend a 16 week academy in Salem starting later this month and then a several month-long field training program. Officer Brenner fills a vacancy we've had from last year. Please make him feel welcome if you see him out and about. He will be ceremoniously sworn-in at the Jan. 10, 2018 city council meeting.
