It is No Shave November again!! The Astoria Police are taking part in a cancer awareness fundraiser the next 2 months. No-Shave November is a month-long journey during which participants forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow. We will donate the money spent on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle. Staff are allowed to stop shaving for the cause. The officers participating will submit a clean shaven pic on November 1st. Follow-up pics will be posted every two weeks. Participants will be donating money to the American Cancer Society for November. The American Cancer Society is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. In December the participants are expected to shape and trim their beards and continue to post the results. The funds for December will go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The Prevent Cancer Foundation is the only U.S. nonprofit solely focused on the prevention and early detection of cancer. The links are below for both organizations.

This is exciting news for us to announce!! Ted has been a strong leader for our friends in red. We wish him nothing but the best with retirement. We will miss him in the public safety building, and are glad to hear he is sticking around for a bit longer!!
