April is National Child Abuse Prevention month. All over the country, people are planting blue pinwheels to promote child abuse awareness. A blue pinwheel symbolizes a child’s happiness and here at CPPD, we are committed to protecting and serving all members of our community to ensure happiness is maintained year-round. This past weekend’s Pizza with Police and Fire events were a HUGE success. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our efforts to fund-raise for Crater High School Sparrow Club’s Sparrow, Bauer. His whole family came out for a couple nights to support the event and we were very excited to be able to show them how many people in our community care about Bauer and supporting the Sparrow Club. With excellent news, we are pleased to announce we raised over $1,500 from the events! All three of the 50/50 raffle winners donated their money back to Bauer so we want to give them a big shout-out and tell them how much we appreciate their generosity—as well as everyone else’s who participated! The winners of the 50/50 raffles tickets were as follows: Friday night – Ticket number 8253608 for Mike Hussey Saturday night – Ticket number 8254335 for Kiana Loynes Sunday night – Ticket number 8254619 for Matt Myers Another thank you to all the CPPD and Fire District 3 staff who volunteered their time to help make this event go smoothly and with a great turnout from each department. And lastly, a massive thank you to Rick Deates and Bobbios Pizza for not only letting us host the event at their business for a whole weekend, but also donating a portion of the proceeds of purchases to our cause. CPPD took a report of a theft of a package from a doorstep on the 2nd in the 600 block of Cherry St. The residents had a video doorbell recording system in place and the company providing the service, Ring, put together this video to help identify the suspect. Don't forget to stop by our lobby before 5:00 p.m. to pick up a flyer for the event. We had a very special guest at the PD yesterday: our Sparrow, Bauer! We are gearing up for the Pizza with Police and Fire events this weekend and thought it would be nice to introduce you to the kind, lovable, happy kid this fundraiser is all for! Bauer is an adorable, energetic 5-year-old boy who has a very rare congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot which caused him to endure open heart surgery at just three months old. Bauer also suffers from an even rarer condition called “6P Terminal Deletion” which is non-life-threatening but has caused Bauer to have loss of hearing, vision problems, and has affected his motor development. The proceeds from this weekend’s events are going to Bauer and his family so please stop by for a tasty meal and to meet some officers and firefighters.
