Drug Arrest!! The Jim Thorpe Police Department along with Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office Bureau of Narcotics Investigation conducted an illegal drug sale interdiction in the Borough of Jim Thorpe on November 1, 2017. We received information in regards to a sale of Fentanyl that was going to occur in the parking lot of the Jim Thorpe Market. We also received information that the suspect vehicle was a blue Mercury Sable. The vehicle was stopped in the parking lot of the Jim Thorpe Market. Lisa Ciampaglia Effort, PA Monroe County and Sean Scott of Tamaqua, PA Schuylkill County were found to have had approximately 300 bags of fentanyl in the vehicle. Ciampaglia had warrants out of Carbon and Monroe County. Ciampaglia and Scott were both charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Ciampaglia and Scott were arraigned in front of Magistrate Kosciolek and bail was set at $50,000 unsecured.

11-6-17 Update: Kerry Bauder was taken into custody and arraigned at Magistrate Kissner's in Palmerton. The Jim Thorpe police have charged Earl A. Eldridge, 36, of the 300 block of South Avenue, Jim Thorpe and Mark Anthony Bauder Sr., 47, of the 200 block of E. Ridge Street, Lansford for their connection with several thefts (jewelry, iPad, laptop computer, coins, and 22 cal Taurus pistol) that occurred at a residence on the 800 block of Center Avenue, Jim Thorpe. The thefts were reported to police in October of 2016. Through further investigation, police accuse Eldridge with selling several of the stolen items to Bauder and his nephew, Kerry Scott Bauder, 33, of last known address of 35 Sharpe Street, Lansford for drug money. Eldridge and Mark Bauder have been served with their charges. Eldridge: receiving stolen property (felony) and criminal conspiracy (receiving stolen property); Mark Bauder: receiving stolen property (felony), 2 counts of criminal conspiracy (receiving stolen property), and unsworn falsification to authorities. ****An felony arrest warrant has been issued for Kerry Scott Bauder. Arrest Warrant Issued!! Home Improvement Fraud The Jim Thorpe Police Department have secured a felony arrest warrant for Donn M. Walck, a 40-year-old white, male with a last known address of 115 Silverbrook Road, McAdoo, PA. Walck is accused of taking $1,400.00 in cash from a borough resident for a home improvement project and failing to perform the work. At the time of the initial contract, Walck used the alias of Donn Walch of D.W. Home Improvements. Walck faces the following charges: (2) counts of Home Improvement Fraud, and (1) count each of theft by unlawful taking or disposition; theft by deception; and receiving stolen property. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Walck, they are asked to call 911 or contact the Jim Thorpe police department at 570-325-4995.

JT Residents be aware of a possible scam. An elderly male received a phone call from a caller claiming to be United Pharmacy Associates. The elderly male was asked about his doctor, and specifically about pain medications. The male hung up on the caller. Residents are encouraged to not to share their personal information with strangers and to call the police if you believe something doesn't sound right.

Jim Thorpe’s annual Halloween Parade has been rescheduled from Sunday to Saturday due to an inclement weather forecast. The parade will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. with line up starting at 2 p.m. in the high school parking lot.

The Jim Thorpe Police Department is currently accepting applicants for the position of Part-Time Police Officer. All applicants must be Act#120 certified in order to apply. Jim Thorpe Police are on the scene of a motor vehicle accident with pedestrians struck near the Mauch Chunk Opera House. Jim Thorpe Fire Department and EMS are on scene.

Drivers are encouraged to remove their expired registration stickers from their license plates. There have been reports of out of state Police Departments stopping Pennsylvania cars with the expired registration stickers. PennDot has alerted Police from other states as well as Canada that Pennsylvania is no longer using stickers on Pennsylvania vehicles. If you happened to be stopped out of stop it is recommended to show your current registration card and explain to that officer that Pennsylvania no longer uses stickers for the license plate of vehicles.

The Mansion House Hill Rock Removal Project is now complete. All lanes on State Route 209 on the Mansion House are now open. There will be no additional delays or detours for this project.

The last Jim Thorpe Community Watch Meeting for the year will be tonight, Thursday, October 19th, in the SKATING RINK of Memorial Hall, at 7 pm. All of the JTPD Officers will be there, so that the community can meet them. We look forward to a great night and hope to see everyone there

News Release: Suspected Drug Dealer arrested. The Jim Thorpe police along with agents of the Attorney General’s office, Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control have charged Tammy M. Christman, 49, of the 600 block of Center Street, Jim Thorpe with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (methamphetamine), unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Christman is accused of selling drugs throughout the borough of Jim Thorpe in the past year. All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

News Release: Rape Suspect Arrested!! The Jim Thorpe police have charged Cody North Lewis, 22, of the 400 block of W. Ludlow Street, Summit Hill with rape by threat of forcible compulsion, terroristic threats, false imprisonment, indecent assault, simple assault, criminal mischief, and harassment. In July, police were contacted by a 23-year-old female, who stated that she was assaulted by Lewis inside the Union Publik House, located at 212 Center Street, Jim Thorpe and continued at a residence in the borough. Through further investigation, police were able to secure an arrest warrant for Lewis. Police observed Lewis on October 6 at a high school football game and took him into custody. Lewis was placed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility where he was arraigned the next morning with bail set at $75,000 (10%). Unable to post bail, Lewis remained in the facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18 at 2:00 PM at Magistrate Eric Schrantz’s office. All Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Traffic Advisory for this weekend!!! Week 2 of the Fall Foilage Festival. Expect heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area this weekend. If you are traveling into Jim Thorpe, expect delays with large amounts of traffic. Use alternate routes to avoid the downtown area. The Festival runs from 11am-5pm Saturday and Sunday.

Jim Thorpe couple is facing charges: Jim Thorpe Police arrested Caleb J. Herman, 27, and Allison M. Herman, 31, both of 627 Center St. They have been charged with drug dealing offenses. They were arrested on Sept. 11 during a traffic stop. Caleb Herman, who was on probation at the time, was placed in the county prison in Nesquehoning after being arraigned while Allison Herman was released on unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing was held for both on October 4, 2017.

Press Release: September 20, 2017 A Lehighton man is facing drug charges related to the operation of a methamphetamine lab. Jim Thorpe police said Willard John Yons III, 42, of the 2300 block of Fairyland Road, has been charged with felony drug-related counts. Police said Yons was also involved with the sale of drugs. According to police on June 16, Yons fled from a residence in Penn Forest Streams Development, Penn Forest Township when they attempted to serve an arrest warrant. He was captured after a brief foot pursuit and resisted arrest. Yons was eventually subdued and taken into custody. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, on charges of risking a catastrophe, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possessing phenylpropanolamine, etc., or a precursor substance with intent to unlawfully manufacture, possession of a controlled substance, operating a meth lab and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail. He has since posted the bail. He has since waved the charges to the county court and is scheduled for a pretrial conference on the charges in the district attorney’s office at the courthouse in Jim Thorpe on Oct. 10. State police at Fern Ridge assisted in the arrest of Yons in Penn Forest Township.

The Jim Thorpe Community Watch is having their monthly meeting tomorrow, Thursday, September 21st at Memorial Hall in the main hall at 7 pm. This month’s guest speaker is from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). The DEA will speak about the Heroin epidemic in our area. This is open to the public anyone can attend!!!

Jim Thorpe Resident's be aware of a scam. A resident received a phone call from a male named "Stan" claiming to be solicting for the for local Fire Department's. We checked and confirmed the Jim Thorpe Fire Department does not have anyone making phone calls on their behalf. This is a scam. When we tried calling the number, we were unable to speak to a live body. If you receive a phone call and have any questions, please contact the Police Department 570-325-4995. Don't let scammers get your hard earned money.
