Hazleton man facing Felony drug charges. On April 03, 2018, charges were filed in relation to a month long narcotics investigation that took place in January of 2017. During the Investigation, Agents of the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, comprised of officers from the West Hazleton Police Department, and the Hazleton City Police Narcotics Division, investigated the sales and trafficking of crack cocaine throughout the Hazleton area. Michael Ruiz (23), Hazleton, faces (2) counts each of; Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Criminal Use of a Communication Facility. Ruiz was taken into custody at Magisterial District Court, while appearing on charges filed by the West Hazleton Police Patrol Division for Possession of crack cocaine. Ruiz was arraigned on the charges and released with unsecured bail.

UPDATE TO SHOOTING INCIDENT: Domingo Garcia LOPEZ, 44 year old male, West Hazleton, was charged with two felony counts of Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in relation to the early morning shooting that occurred at 5 Washington Avenue in the Borough. LOPEZ was arraigned by Magistrate James Dixon and remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without bail. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and further charges are pending.

The West Hazleton Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of April 1, 2018 inside a Washington Avenue residence. One male victim was airlifted to a regional trauma center for treatment of gunshot wounds and one male suspect is in custody. Investigation is still ongoing at this time. West Hazleton Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Hazleton City Police Department, Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Patrol Unit and Forensic Services Unit, the West Hazleton Fire Department, and APTS EMS. Attempt to identify: The West Hazleton Police Department is investigating a robbery of a motor vehicle that occurred in the late evening hours of March 14th, 2018 on East Broad Street in West Hazleton. The pictured male was developed as a suspect. Anyone who may recognize this male is asked to contact the West Hazleton Police Department by calling 570-455-3733 or by calling 911. Investigation leads to Felony drug charges. On Saturday, March 10, 2018, at approximately 10:30 pm, West Hazleton Police encountered a wanted subject near Pantry Quik. The male was taken into custody pursuant to an arrest warrant from a Schuylkill County Police agency. Police discovered the male possessed heroin and crystal methamphetamine. An investigation revealed the male possessed the narcotics with the intent to deliver or distribute them. Jared George Azar (24), Shenandoah, faces (2) counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, (2) counts Possession of a Controlled Substance, and (1) count Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. AZAR was arraigned before Magisterial District Court Judge James Dixon, and committed to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility after he was unable to produce bail.

Disturbance investigation leads to multiple arrests. On Sunday, February 25 2018, at approximately 04:30 am, the West Hazleton Police Department was summoned to the 400 block of West Green Street, for the report of a group a females fighting. Upon their arrival, officers encountered (2) females attempting to flee into a residence, the females were detained pursuant to an investigation, and officers discovered they were highly intoxicated. While attempting to identify the subjects, (1) of the females became increasingly agitated and uncooperative with an officer’s investigation. The female attempted to walk away from police and ignored officer’s commands to quit shouting and screaming. While taking the female into custody, (2) females, and (3) males, appeared from inside the residence and attempted to intervene with officers effecting an arrest. The group ignored numerous police commands to disperse from the area, and at one point a male aggressively charged at officers. While on scene, police took (3) females into custody, while the remaining members of the group fled into a residence. The females were transported to police headquarters, where one of the involved males appeared a short time later, and was taken into custody for his role in the incident. The incident is still under investigation and West Hazleton police anticipate additional arrest to be made upon the identification of actors involved. Tanea Elliot (30), Hazleton, faces charges of Persistent Disorderly Conduct, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Drunkenness. Jocelyn Eryka Lockridge (23), West Hazleton, faces charges for Failure of Disorderly Person to Disperse, Persistent Disorderly Conduct, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Drunkenness. Giovanni Summers (22), New York, faces charges for Failure of Disorderly Persons to Disperse, Persistent Disorderly Conduct, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Drunkenness. Christopher Luis Velasquez (29), Hazleton, faces charges for Failure of Disorderly Person to Disperse, Persistent Disorderly Conduct, Disorderly Conduct, and (2) counts Public Drunkenness

On February 11, 2018, at approximately 7:00 am, the West Hazleton Police Department received multiple reports of a group fighting near 3rd and East Broad Streets. Upon their arrival, officers encountered Vernon Rayshaun Arnold (25), Hazleton, Jocelyn Eryka Lockridge (23), West Hazleton, and Giovanni Summers (22), Hazleton, all (3) were cited for Disorderly Conduct after witnesses reported the trio were screaming and causing a disturbance. West Hazleton Police were assisted by officers from the Hazleton City Police Department during this incident.

On February 21, 2018, at approximately 2:00 am, the West Hazleton Fire Department requested Police assistance at their station after a female with an altered mental state appeared there. Upon Police arrival, officers encountered Samantha Fisher (22), Sugarloaf, and discovered she was under the influence of a controlled substance(s) to the degree she was a danger to herself. Fisher was cited for Public Drunkenness and transported by EMS.

Stolen vehicle recovered, driver faces charges. On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at approximately 9:50 pm, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. During the course of a vehicle traffic stop, officers discovered the vehicle was stolen from Philadelphia. Fernando Gutierrez-Ucles, (44), Hazleton, was driving the stolen vehicle without a valid operator’s license. Gutierrez-Ucles faces felony charges for Receiving Stolen Property; motor vehicle, along with summary traffic violations. Gutierrez-Ucles was taken into custody and transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility to be arraigned on the charges.

Wanted man apprehended. On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at approximately 5:30 pm, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle being operated by a known wanted person. As Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the male made evasive driving maneuvers, including driving the wrong way, on a one-way street before abandoning the vehicle on a sidewalk, and fleeing from Police on foot. On Thursday, February 15, 2018, officers apprehended the male who was hiding in his parent’s basement. While taking the male into custody, officers observed and seized suspected heroin, and drug paraphernalia in close proximity to the male. William “Billy” Quinn, (24), West Hazleton, faces charges for Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police, Flight to Avoid Apprehension, and narcotics related charges along with multiple summary traffic violations. Quinn was transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility after his capture.

Wanted men facing narcotics charges. On Sunday, February 11, 2018, at approximately 11:15 pm, an Officer on patrol observed a vehicle being operated with a lighting equipment violation. During the course of a vehicle traffic stop, the driver, and a passenger, were found to be wanted persons(s). Justin Paul Haines (30), AKA “Justin Azar”, was wanted by Schuylkill County Adult Probation for violating probation conditions following a heroin sales conviction. Haines faces charges for False Identification to Law Enforcement, and drug related charges as a result of the traffic stop. Haines was taken into custody and transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. The vehicle operator, Joseph Michael Elliss (35), Hazleton, was wanted by the Luzerne County Sheriffs Department for failure to appear. Elliss also faces drug related charges, and driving with a suspended/revoked license as a result of the traffic stop. Ellis was taken into custody and transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

ATTENTION BOROUGH RESIDENTS: The snow parking ban is in effect and will remain in effect throughout the upcoming storm. Any vehicles parked on the snow ban side will be ticketed. We ask that all vehicles be moved to allow for proper snow removal and to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors.

On Tuesday, January 30, 2018, Agents of the Luzerne County Drug Task Force filed charges at the completion of a month long investigation. Task Force agents, comprised of members of the West Hazleton Police Department, and the Hazleton City Police Department Narcotics Division, investigated the sales and distribution of crack cocaine and other illicit narcotics throughout the Hazleton area. Alejandro Frederick Kraynak (30), Hazleton, and Earl Carnell William McCormick (31), Philadelphia, were taken into custody and charged with narcotics sales offenses. Kraynak, faces (2) counts Delivery of a Controlled Substance; (1) count Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance, and (3) counts Criminal Use of a Communication Facility. McCormick, faces (1) count Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and (1) count Conspiracy to Deliver a Controlled Substance. Kraynak and McCormick apeared before Magisterial District Court Judge Barrilla, Barrilla set straight bail at $75,000 and $100,000 respectively. Unable to immediately produce bail, Kraynak and McCormick were committed to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility where they await preliminary hearings. Drug Task Force Agents were assisted by the Hazleton City Police, and West Hazleton Borough Police patrol divisions during the investigation.

On December 21 2017, Police were notified of an abandoned bicycle found near the 200 block of Winters Avenue. The bicycle is a men's BMX style. Anyone wishing to claim the bicycle can call Police at 570-455-3733 with its description.

Officers and Police Association donate to Blue Santa The Officers of the West Hazleton Police Department along with the West Hazleton Police Association were honored to make a donation to the Hazleton Police FOP Lodge #18, Blue Santa Project. This project will help provide gifts to underprivileged area children. Our hat's are off to our brothers and sisters in the Hazleton Police Department for this amazing project and we are proud to be able to assist with this donation. On November 7th, 2017, officers from the Hazleton City Police Department located Bolling at the Hazleton Motor Inn. He was taken into custody without incident. Bolling was arraigned in front of Magistrate Dixon on both the robbery charges from the incidents in West Hazleton as well as a robbery in Plains Township. He was committed to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility after being unable to post $250,000 bail.

****WANTED**** Raymond Edward BOLLING of Hazle Township is wanted in connection with the two armed robberies that took place in the early morning hours of November 6th, 2017, at the Buddie's Bagels and Weis Markets. Anyone who may know the whereabouts of BOLLING is asked to contact the West Hazleton Police at 570-455-3733 or by calling 911. All calls will be handled confidentially.

On November 3rd, 2017, the West Hazleton Police Department received information that wanted person, Aneudi CENTENO-ANDUJAR, was at a residence on E. Green Street in the Borough. As Officers made contact at the residence, CENTENO-ANDUJAR exited a second story window and climbed onto a roof in an attempt to conceal his location and ultimately flee from the officers. Officers positioned in the rear of the residence observed this action and thwarted his attempts. CENTENO-ANDUJAR was subsequently taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $150,000 bail. He faces charges of Burglary (F), Robbery (F), Escape (F), Simple Assault (M), Terroristic Threats (M), as well as several theft related charges. During the investigation West Hazleton Police were assisted by officers from the Hazleton City Police Department, Sugarloaf and Butler Township Police Departments, and Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police.

Traffic Stop leads to charges. On Tuesday, October 24 2017, at approximately 10:51 pm, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle being operated without its headlights illuminated. During the course of a traffic stop, a male provided Police with false information regarding his identity. Police took the male into custody and discovered his true name. Dario GEORGE (26), Hazleton, faces charges of False ID to Law Enforcement.

On Saturday, October 21 2017, at approximately 2:20 pm, the West Hazleton Police Department was summoned to the area of Cranberry Avenue to the report of a female who was thrown from a moving vehicle. As Police converged on the area, additional information was received reporting a male had shot a firearm at the vehicle. An investigation revealed Rafael Castillo (49), West Hazleton, had fired (6) shots at an occupied vehicle during an argument near the 5th Street playground. CASTILLO’s gunfire struck the vehicle twice as the occupants fled for safety. Castillo was taken into Police custody a short time later. CASTILLO was charged with (2) counts of Aggravated Assault, (2) counts of Recklessly Endangering another Person, and (1) count Possessing an Instrument of a Crime. The West Hazleton Police Department is handling this incident as an ongoing investigation, and requests anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Police at (570) 455-3733. West Hazleton Police were assisted by officers from the Hazleton City Police Department, Sugarloaf Township Police Department, Butler Township Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police during this incident.

During the overnight hours of October 06 2017, a discarded bow case was turned over to the West Hazleton Police Department. The owner may claim the case by contacting Police at (570) 455-3733, or by appearing at the Police Department.

On Tuesday, October 3rd, Officer Henderson visited the children of Pixie Paradise Early Learning Center to teach the children about Halloween safety, Stranger Danger, and the reasons to call 911.
