This week April 8-14, 2018 is national public safety telecommunications week. Day in and day out year after year we teach our children to call 911 when there is an emergency but rarely do we actually think about the people who are on the other end of that call the ones who we depend on when the house is on fire, the ambulance is needed, or you need an officer, without our gold line family none of us would be able to perform our duties as quickly and professionally as we do. Here at the smethport police we would like to thank each and every dispatcher at McKean County Dept of Emergency Services for the job you do and we all look forward to years and years of service together and we appreciate you always having our “six”

This morning Officer Day and Seipp got the chance to do some fun community policing by assisting with the annual bunny hop 5k and 10k both Officers had a blast and would like to congratulate everyone that participated and would like to thank the Smethport Fire Department Inc. fire police, Debbie rittberg, the sponsors, and all of her helpers for making this another successful year we look forward to seeing everyone and more next year!!! ::.Please feel free to tag any of the photos and save them if you have any photos you’d like to share leave them in the comment section!::.

NOTICE!!!! On January 26, 2018 from 8:30am- 1:30pm South Mechanic St will be closed from Water St to Willow St while our water Dept fixes a broken line. Please plan accordingly while traveling to and from the school, library, and IU9

On 01/24/2018 Smethport Borough Police assisted the McKean County Drug task force, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office followed up on an ongoing investigation at 420 West Main St Borough of Smethport during that time a large amount of drug paraphernalia and other items consistent with the manufacturing of Meth were observed. At this time residents were removed from the apartment and the scene was secured. The Pennsylvania State police clandestine lab team and agents from the PA Attorney General’s office were called in to take care of the chemicals. The scene was contained, Mindy Nichols was taken into custody and charged with a number of drug offenses and arraigned in front of Magistrate Todd where she was then remanded to the McKean County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Smethport schools will be closed tomorrow Friday January 5th 2018 due to the frigid below zero temps! -During the colder weather please dress appropriately layer clothing and if outside for extended periods of time cover exposed skin to avoid frostbite -If traveling please always have an extra jacket, blanket, bottles of water, gloves Incase of emergency -At home if you have problems with pipes freezing let the faucets dribble water keep your pets inside as much as possible

Officers in the department would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year! We wish everyone a safe fun filled night and a reminder to NOT drink and drive utilize a DD always Buckle up and slow down on the roads tonight! Our officers tho frozen are out in full force tonight!!

Today as our yearly tradition all boro employees gathered in the meeting room for our Christmas party. Member of the Police Dept, Water Dept, Sewer Dept, Electric Dept, parks Dept, along with the girls in the office to include Mrs. Funk who came out of retirement to help us this year and Mrs. O’rourke who served the boro for over 30 years. We shared stories of years past and of this past year to include lol the late night water line breaks backed up sewers the addition of more trees and goose lights. After the story telling and memory sharing was done we all got back to work. All employees look forward to another year of successfully serving the residents and we are all thankful for the support we receive Day in and day out from everyone in town!!! On a side note we would like to send a congratulations to Andrew Gallup son of boro employee Bill Gallup who is in the process of graduating from US Army basic training

All of us here with the Smethport Police would like to send our congratulations to Chief Deputy Jim sharer on his retirement from the Mckean County Sheriffs Office today. We wish you the very best in your retirement. Chief Warnick and Officer Seipp would like to personally thank you for all of your help and friendship both at work and in our personal lives. You are a perfect example of how our profession should act always kind and willing to help and always organized and squared away we hope to continue to represent our profession the way you have for so many years. We would also like to send our congratulations to Bryan Goodrow on your promotion to Chief Deputy we all look forward to continuing to work with you along with everyone at the Sheriffs office to help provide the best service possible for our communities and our county.

With the winter weather we are currently receiving please remember to check your wipers, lights, and remove excess snow and ice buildup from you vehicle and please slow down our road crews are out and about doing the best they can. Help us keep everyone safe and as always wear your seatbelt!!!

This afternoon the Smethport Rotary Club held a luncheon to honor our local veterans after lunch was served and stories were told the youngest veteran in attendance Officer Seipp (USMC Operation Enduring freedom) was honored to present a folded flag and display case to the eldest veteran in attendance Mr. Clint Williams (US Army WWII) our department is honored to have been invited to the event along with being given the opportunity to preset the flag to Mr Williams. Today the Police Dept welcomed the Allegany mountain homeschool co-op to the Boro office to learn how not to be scared of the police see what we do on a daily basis, they learned how to become officers and what exactly our job entails from qualifications to expectations and everything in between. We thank all the kids and parents for coming out and giving us the opportunity to reach out to the community we hope everyone had as much fun as Officer Kevin and Chief Warnick

This morning the UMC preschool visited the borough office they were introduced to Mr Charlie, Mr Bill of the electric department, Ms Cheryl, Ms Melody from the office and Officer Kevin from the police department we learned about what the electric Dept does and how they help us, we learned about what the girls in the office do and how they keep everything running and make sure we all have to tools we need to complete our jobs, and we learned about the police and how we shouldn’t be scared of them we also learned about 911 and how if you are ever in need don’t be afraid to call. After all this learning occurred we traveled outside to look at the police car, bucket truck, and the electric truck. We thank the preschool for coming and allowing us to show the children inside our daily operations. We hope the children had as much fun as our employees
