An application form and details of the selection process may be obtained at the Mount Carmel Borough Municipal Building, located at 137 West Fourth Street, Mount Carmel, PA 17851 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Applicants must be a United States Citizen. A High School diploma or equivalency certificate is required. Must be at least 21 years of age and not more than 39 years of age at time of hire. Must reside within a 10 mile radius of Mount Carmel Borough within 12 months of successful completion of the probationary period. Must meet Civil Service requirements. Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officer’s Training Commission Act 120 Certificate preferred but not necessary. Those currently enrolled in the Act 120 certificate program urged to apply. Act 120 certified - Negotiable sign on bonus for a hired applicant with current Act 120 Certificate. Must meet Civil Service requirements. UPDATE--Sunbury Animal Hospital has graciously agreed to house her until the owner can be located. Once she finishes being fed she will be taken to SAH to be housed. Thanks for all of the shares!

Mount Carmel Borough Police are trying to locate the owner(s) of a tan female Pitbull-mix that was found in the area of Fourth and Chestnut Street near Pepe's. The dog has a pink nylon collar on with no tags. If you are the owner or know who the owner is please call the Northumberland County 911 Center at 570-648-3868. The event will be Saturday April 29, 2017 from 10 am to 2 pm. Residents can bring outdated, unused medications to our collection site where they will be collected and destroyed. We cannot accept liquids, aerosols and syringes but, will accept tablets, capsules, etc.

Mount Carmel Fire Department in conjunction with the American Red Cross and other sponsors will again be installing smoke alarms in the fourth ward of Mount Carmel Borough on April 8, 2017 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Mount Carmel Police Dept are asking for the public's help in locating Jeffrey Kays age 36yrs white male of Mount Carmel who was reported missing by his family on Sunday February 05,2017. Kays was last seen by his family on Saturday at aprox. 1130am. Kays is believed to be operating a silver 2016 Dodge Dart. As of this posting no contact has been made with Mr. Kays. The Mount Carmel Borough Police Department is investigating a Burglary that occurred this morning at around 0545 hours and is asking for the communities assistance . A lone Actor entered the front door of Showcase Billiards and removed currency from the safe. Admittedly the photos are poor quality but, we are asking if anyone saw a person wearing an under armor hooded sweatshirt and light colored pants around 0545 hours this morning in the area of Fourth and Oak Street to contact Mount Carmel Police at 570-648-3868. Mount Carmel Borough Police is trying to locate the owner of a female Pitbull that was found lying under a vehicle. She appears to have been suffering a heat related emergency. Thanks to some neighbors nearby they gave us some water for her until we could get her back to the Police Department and into the air conditioning. She is doing well since she was brought in from the heat. She has a white and brindle colored coat and has a camouflage type collar on her without any tags. She was scanned for a microchip but, has none. Anyone knowing the owner of this girl please call the non-emergency number to the Northumberland County Communications Center at 570-648-3868. We are limited in housing her since we have no pens, etc but, due to the extreme temps outside we are working to find her some suitable shelter. Please share with your contacts. Thanks!
