The Lawrenceburg Police Department would like to take a minute and remind the public at large of 2 very important pieces of legislation that will go into effect starting January 1, 2018.
1. SB194/HB332 Restrictions for lights displayed on vehicles. Tenn. Code Ann. 55-9-402 (d)(3)
No vehicle operated in this state shall be equipped with any steady burning lights that display to the front of the vehicle in any color other than white or amber or in any combination of colors other than white and amber except for any vehicle operated for purposes of an emergency equipment company, emergency services departments, schoolbuses, or authorized law-enforcement vehicles.
2. SB954/HB868 Driving a motor vehicle and talking on a hand-held mobile telephone - Class C misdemeanor. Can't talk on the cell phones in school zones. Tenn. Code Ann. 55-8-201(b)(1)&(2).
It is an offense for a person to knowingly operate a motor vehicle in any marked school zone in this state, when a warning flasher or flashers are in operation, and talk on a handheld mobile telephone while the vehicle is in motion.
It is a delinquent act for a person under 18 years of age to knowingly operate a motor vehicle on any road or highway in this state and talk on a mobile telephone that is equipped with hands-free device while the vehicle is in motion.
