Officer Choate with a group of fans during the 2017 Halloween event in the Center Farms.
From Kingston Parks and Rec Director Rick Ross: Due to possible high rain chances we are postponing Kingston Street Fest to Saturday November 4th. Same time and format. Sorry but this is beyond our control and we want to offer the best event possible. Hope to see everyone on November 4th at the Old Courthouse in Kingston.
The Kingston Police Department will be hosting a road block to raise money for the Hands of Mercy Food Drive. The road block will be November 4th. All volunteers and donations are greatly appreciated.
It's that time of year again. This year we are needing donations for Turkeys for the baskets. All of the other food for the baskets are going to be sponsored this year. All donations are greatly appreciated.
A lady was involved in a vehicle accident and her dog jump out of the car. She asked that we post this. If you have seen this dog or know where it is, please contact her at the number listed.
Public announcement: The Fall Yard Sale for the Center Farms area will be held on September 16, 2017. We would like to make traffic changes known to reduce confusion during this time. Traffic flow will change to ONE WAY after the intersection of Village Way and Bradford Village Way. As illustrated by the attached image, traffic will continue one way all the way down Bradford Village Way to the intersection with Hartford Village Way. High Pointe Village Way will remain open for two way traffic. Hartford Village Way will continue this one way traffic pattern to the intersection with Village Way. Drivers will be able to turn right onto Zachry Drive or proceed straight onto Newport Way. Turning left at this intersection will not be allowed. Traffic will continue to flow one way around the Newport Way loop to the intersection with Village Way. Turning left at this intersection will not be allowed. Vehicles will have to turn right to meet the original intersection. Drivers will be allowed to start the one way process again or leave the area on Village Way. There will be "Road Closed" and "Detour" signs posted at the appropriate intersections. Traffic will still be congested so we ask that everyone be patient. Also, this will be the same traffic pattern used for this area during the evening of Halloween, October 31, 2017. Halloween will begin in this area at 6:00 pm and end at 8:00 pm. We appreciate everyone's cooperation during these two events. Be safe and have a wonderful day.
We would like to ask everyone to please say a prayer for Sergeant Jerry Singleton this morning. While conducting a traffic stop on a truck pulling a car hauler last night, the driver fled the scene in the vehicle. Sgt. Singleton was standing next to the driver side door of the suspect vehicle when it drove off. As the truck pulled out, the car hauler ran over Sgt. Singleton causing him injury. Sgt. Singleton is currently at UT Medical Center awaiting surgery due to knee injuries. The suspect was later apprehended. We want to thank the Roane County Sheriff's Office, Rockwood Police, Kingston Fire Department and Roane County EMS for assisting the City of Kingston during the incident.
Public announcement: The City Park and Gravel Pit areas are closed from now until the morning of July 5th. We need the area cleared to make room for July 4th event setup. If anyone has a vehicle, or knows someone with a vehicle, parked at one of these areas please remove it as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience, but due to an internal communication error these areas were unable to be closed last night. Please share with your friends and be safe this holiday.
We want to remind everyone about the Kingston 4th of July Parade that will take place Tuesday July 4th at 12:00 P.M. This year the parade will start in front of the Kingston Fire Department and go down N. Kentucky Street to Roane Street. People that are in the parade will line up in front of Roane County High School. Kentucky Street will be closed during the parade. We recommend drivers to find a alternate route for Kentucky Street during the parade. Please share this post so everyone will know about the road closure.
July 4th Traffic Alert/Closures/Waterways The Kingston Police Department will be closing the City Park and the Gravel Pit on Sunday July 2nd at Midnight for the July 4th events. Any vehicle left in the City Park or Gravel Pit after midnight will be towed at owners expense. On the 4th of July the Police Department will shut down Highway 70 from the Kingston City Park to the little Rocky Top Market next to Rite Aid. Officers will shut down the highway at 8:00 a.m. on the 4th. The highway will continue to be shutdown after the fireworks until traffic has cleared in Kingston. Do not expect highway 70 to be open directly after the fireworks between the City Park and little Rocky Top. The Clinch River will be shut down during the fireworks show. 1 to 2 hours prior to the fireworks, Marine Patrol will start to establish boundaries where the river will be shut down during the fireworks. And as usual, the firework show will start at dark. We hope everybody has fun during the 4th and stays safe.
Public Advisory: Ridge Trail Road will be closed today (June 19, 2017) between Cedar Greens Drive and Arsenault Crossing. This will begin at 8:30 AM and end when the Street Department is finished with their work.
This pup was found wondering the intersection of Lawnville Road and Highway 70. All four paws are white with a faded green collar. Update: Dog has been returned to her owner. Thank you for the shares.
If anybody knows who this little girl belongs to, please contact the Kingston Police Department. She was located in the area 714 W. Spring Street in Kingston. She's a friendly little dog and likes to run in circles chasing her tail.
