Murfreesboro Police officers and detectives are again participating in the American Cancer Society’s “No Shave November”. The thought behind No Shave November is “to grow cancer awareness and raise funds to support cancer prevention, research and education”. The ACS encourages participants to “donate the money usually spent on shaving and grooming for a month to support life-saving research”. More information and a link for donations can be found at www.no-shavenovember.com . In support of this effort, officers and detectives can donate money to the American Cancer Society in order for the Chief of Police to waive the Department’s policy regarding facial hair during the month of November. Since the participating officers and detectives are in contact with the public daily, they hope to spread awareness of the fundraiser and the needs of the American Cancer Society simply by being seen with their beards. The Department believes this will not affect the officer’s ability to perform their duties and officers still must wear their facial hair in a manner that is safe. This program has raised approximately $1500 per year for the American Cancer Society since it began. Officers from each shift and division will also nominate an officer with the best beard to participate in a “Beard-Off” to be considered for the “Best Beard Award”. “Our officers serve our community every day in several ways, this event is yet another way they are able to give back and raise awareness of a worthy cause such as the American Cancer Society”, said Interim Chief Bowen.

Just a reminder....

Aggravated Robbery/ Kidnapping The Murfreesboro Police Department responded to a call of a subject knocking on doors stating he had been robbed in the 1100 block of Mahogany Trail around 5:30.a.m.this morning. Officers enroute to the call encountered another subject needing medical attention on Gold Valley Drive. Another call from a person at a nearby business reporting being robbed in the area quickly followed. The investigation into the three calls revealed them to be one related situation. The two robbery victims had arrived at a home on Cayuga Trail for one to meet with a female. Upon their arrival the passenger went to the back door of the home and the driver remained in the truck. The passenger found no one to be available at the back door and began to return to the truck when he saw the 2 suspects appearing to rob the driver. The victim in the truck reported the suspect in the cab of the truck told the driver to give him everything he had and to drive away while the second suspect jumped into the bed of truck. As they began travelling a car backing from a driveway caused the vehicle to stop. The suspect exited the cab and went after the original passenger, who had followed the truck on foot in an attempt to help his friend, attacking and robbing him. The suspect in the bed of the truck was thrown from the moving vehicle and was the injured subject found on Gold Valley Drive by responding officers. The victim located on Mahogany Trail and the suspect found on Gold Valley Drive were both transported to St. Thomas Rutherford for medical treatment. The female was taken into custody once her connection to one of the suspects (Kano) was established. Arrested in the situation are Joniah Kano, B/M, 10-8-1996 charged with aggravated robbery x 2, carjacking, kidnapping and theft under $1000 x 2 and Miranda Cohen, W/F, 04-08-1997 charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. The second suspect has not been taken into custody at this time but is actively being sought. This investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information they are asked to call Murfreesboro Police at 615-893-1311 or call Crime Stoppers at (615) 893-7867 (STOP).
