Congratulations to these members of the department's SWAT team on their 1st Place finish in the Mississippi Tactical Officers Association SWAT competition held this week in Southaven, MS. In addition to the 1st Place team finish, Lieutenant Ben Sharp finished first in the individual Iron Man challenge. The competition was a great test of fitness, endurance, technical skill, and overall teamwork. Members of this team serve in their primary roles as patrol officers and patrol supervisors. Each volunteers to serve in this additional elite capacity after completing a rigorous selection process. We are proud of their outstanding performance at the competition as well as their daily service to our community.

As we conclude National Teen Driver Safety Week, us this week as a great time to talk to your teens about the rules of the road. But remember it's not just a one-time deal! Talk to your teen driver frequently about the rules of the road to help make them into a safe, responsible driver. The rules are simple— NO alcohol, ALWAYS use seat belts for all occupants, keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel at all time, don’t drive drowsy, and remember passengers increase risk. When parents set firm rules for their teen drivers, teens are safer, the roads are safer. Learn more at: www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/teen-driving

Teens – National Teen Driver Safety Week driving is a good time to remember that driving is a new chapter in your life and a step towards your independence. With that independence comes increased responsibility. When your parents talk to you about safe driving, make sure you’re listening. Their guidance could be the only thing between you and a crash.
