We know a lot of you have been asking about the incident that occurred on Alan Shepard today. Because the incident involves juveniles we will not state names or addresses of any of the persons involved. Those details will be kept confidential as required by law. We are posting this with the intent to inform, not entertain and ask that, out of respect for the family, all comments be done in a respectful manner. At 2:18 pm the City of Kirby’s Emergency Communications Center received the first of several 911 calls about a shooting that occurred at the basketball court in the 3200 Block of Alan Shepard. Kirby Police officers arrived on scene 3 minutes later and discovered an unidentified person on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. The officers called EMS and began immediate first aid. Members of Kirby Fire and EMS arrived on scene and took over care of the patient. The patient was immediately loaded and transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). Despite the efforts of the officers, Kirby Fire and EMS, and the Medical staff at SAMMC, the 16 year old boy died. After speaking to many witnesses, and conducting an extensive search of the area, officers and detectives identified and located the 16 year old suspect. He was taken into custody at 6:00 pm. At this time we are still in the early stages of the investigation and we do not have a lot of answers. We do not know if the two knew each other, or if this was a random event. Was it over something that occurred during a basketball game or something at occurred elsewhere? At this point we do not know, however, we will continue to work the case until we have the answers. We would like to take an opportunity to thank the Judson ISD Police Department, the San Antonio Police Department, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Rangers for their assistance. Your help and assistance is greatly appreciated.
