FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 17, 2018 Sgt. Kevin Miller R U OK Program COPPERAS COVE, TEXAS – The Copperas Cove Police Department is implementing an “Are You O.K?” (R U OK) Telephone Reassurance Program in an attempt to help meet the needs of Copperas Cove seniors, disabled and homebound residents. The program provides a sense of security, caring, and is an added benefit to those it would serve. The R U OK Telephone Reassurance Program is designed to make contact with the subscriber’s multiple times a week. The subscriber will receive automated calls, two days a week and a phone call from a police officer or a volunteer one day a week. If the subscriber does not answer or if the telephone line is busy, two more attempts will be made. If contact is still not made, contact will be made with the subscriber’s emergency contact to see if the whereabouts or welfare of the subscriber is known. If the welfare or whereabouts are still unknown an officer will be sent to the residence to check on the subscriber. R U OK is not designed to be a lifesaver, although there have been instances where it played an important part and did save the lives of subscribers. Its main purpose is to add an additional sense of security to the subscriber as well as their family members and friends. The program can serve as an additional support system when friends and family are unable to maintain consistent contact with the subscriber. Since the implementation of this program in the United States and Canada, numerous accounts have been recorded of persons who benefited from the program. R U OK is a public service provided by the Copperas Cove Police Department for the citizens of Copperas Cove and “free” to subscribers who wish to utilize the service. If you are interested in the R U OK service please contact the Copperas Cove Police Department at 254-547-8222.
