Red Ribbon Week Supported by Sheriff Jimmy Abbett and the Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department. The Theme this year is Life is your Journey, Travel Drug Free. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week® ,October 23rd - October 31st each year. Students receive materials relating to the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The trailer was brought to Dadeville, Reeltown, and Horseshoe Bend schools giving the students the opportunity to receive materials and talk with Local Law Enforcement personnel, Sheriff Jimmy Abbett, School Resource Office Beverly East and New Site Police Chief Phillip Weddle. The trailer is also used by the Alexander City Police Department in their commitment to the city schools.

Sheriff Jimmy Abbett and the Tallapoosa County sheriffs department invite everyone to come out and support the Oktoberfest at the sports Plex in Alex city and visit the sheriffs department booth and meet members of the Tallapoosa County sheriffs department .

****************R.A.D.******************** ****Womens Self Defense************** Sheriff Jimmy Abbett and the Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department will sponsor several Rape, Aggression, Defense training courses throughout 2018. The course are taught by a nationally certified instructor and last 6-8 weeks and is approximately 2-3 hours one night a week. The course limit is 15 per class. The course is specifically designed to provide women with instruction in empowering women and protecting theirselves from attacks of violence. The cost of the class is 35.00 dollars and the student receives a certificate, participants manual, and free lifetime refresher training when available. Preliminary investigation revealed unknown person(s) placed a cat inside a mailbox located on Goodwater Road sometime between Saturday, July 14, 2018 and Monday, July 16, 2018. On Tuesday, July 17th the cat was found dead in the mail box and died of apparent heat exhaustion while in the mailbox. Investigation is pending and the department is requesting that anyone with information is urged to contact the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department at 256-825-4264 or the Secret Witness Number 256-827-2035 if you wish to remain anonymous. In addition, you may call Central Alabama Crime Stoppers with a possible reward for information at 334-215-7887.

**************TEMPERATURE RISING*********************** Sheriff Jimmy Abbett wants everyone to take a moment and be aware that with the rise in temperature its important to makes sure that no one is left inside vehicles even for a short amount of time. Its also important to lock your car even when home so no children can accidently get inside and be locked in. Experts say that "With an outside temperature of 90 degrees, the temperature inside a car can rise to 110 degrees in 10 minutes and 120 degrees in 20 minutes". Sheriff Abbett wants everyone to have a safe and enjoyable sumer.

Please see the information below from the NWS this morning. Heavy rains continue to be our most significant threat with 4-6 inches forecast. "FLOODING: (till 7PM Tuesday) A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the eastern half of Central Alabama, including the I-65 corridor. In this area, more than 3 inches of rainfall is expected through Wednesday afternoon, with a swath of 4-6 inches, with locally higher amounts, across much of the Watch area. See graphics for details. WIND: (till 7AM Tuesday) A Wind Advisory has been issued for areas along and southeast of a line from Selma to Clanton to Alex City, for this afternoon through early Tuesday morning. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts are possible in this area. Ridge tops in northeast Central Alabama could also have occasional wind gusts of 30mph. With saturated ground conditions and additional rainfall expected, weakened trees could be brought down. See graphic for details. TORNADO: Isolated tornadoes within tropical rain bands are possible east of I-65 and south of I-20 late this afternoon and tonight.
