The telephone numbers change often, but the scams stay the close to the same. Today, scammers are calling area residents saying they are with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and YOU have a warrant for your arrest. They go on to say you missed jury duty and to avoid being arrested you need to pay them money over the phone. Some are even saying they will meet you in the Sheriff’s Office Parking lot. Let me assure you, we will NOT meet you in the parking lot to do business or take your money over the phone. If BCSO has legal business with you, we will ask your to come into our office and speak with someone inside our office. Don’t be scammed! Go with your gut instinct. Hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.

We have been receiving an overwhelming amount of calls from the public regarding SCAM calls they are getting. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office does not and will not call and ask you to pay money over the phone. We will not ask you to obtain a gift card, Visa card or green dot card and give us the card number. We will not, under any circumstance, require you to stay on the phone with us while you are purchasing a card or while you are at the bank. We will not ask you to lie to your bank, friends or family in order to obtain payment. Do not give your personal information over the phone such as bank account numbers, social security numbers and address. Your debtors and law enforcement agency will likely already have this information. No other law enforcement or government agency will EVER require you to do the above mentioned things. If you ever have any doubts, please hang up immediately and contact your local law enforcement agency. #protectbenco
