Van Buren Police Department News

We have had a couple of complaints this morning about people getting scam phone calls. These callers will tell you that you have won the lottery or that you owe money for taxes. If you receive one of these phone calls, do not respond and do not send money. If you have not given out any personal information, there will be no need to file a report.

The Van Buren Police Department is in need of Dispatchers! We will be hiring at least three in the near future and other opportunities may arise later. With our hiring process, we generally test once a year and hire from that list. This is a very challenging yet rewarding position that requires someone who is able to multi-task and handle stressful situations well. Details are posted below!

Football Friday Night! Kahr is ready for game day!!!

We have been made aware of a lottery scam that has been sent to Van Buren residents. If you receive a letter that looks like this, it is a scam. Do not call the number on the letter. As long as you have not sent any personal information, no action is needed, just throw the letter away.

Found property. Please contact Christy Davidson at 471-1975 to claim if it's yours.

Many of you do not know that the Van Buren Police Department has an emergency text alert system where we can push out information to the public via text message. We only use this system in case of a very serious emergency where we feel the public needs to be notified in a timely manner. An example of this is an amber alert or a hazardous incident. If you would like to opt in to these messages, please text VANBURENPD to 888777

Interstate 40 Eastbound in Van Buren is currently blocked due to an accident. Take an alternate route if possible.

To provide some clarification on crosswalks, you must yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. The only exception is a controlled intersection. In a controlled intersection (Traffic light), there will be a light that tells pedestrians whether to cross or stop. Use extra caution in school zones.

We got a visit from some of our friends at Abilities Unlimited today!!!

Van Buren Police Department turned over a record 501 pounds of unused prescription drugs to the DEA / Drug Task Force in Fort Smith for destruction following this past weekend's 16th Drug Take Back Event. Our drug drop box is permanent and is located inside our lobby. You can drop unwanted/unused medications anytime, day or night, anonymously. The Drug Drop Box is intended for private citizens to have access to a safe disposal option for their medications. NOTE: The Drug Drop Box can not accommodate disposal of medications from medical and care facilities and our department will no longer accept those drops.

You may see some different faces over the next month at the Van Buren Police Department. Our officers are growing facial hair for No-Shave November. We do this every year to raise money for a good cause. The officers donate money to the cause in order to stop shaving for a month. This year, we are raising money for a member of the VBPD family who has been fighting cancer. Linda Jones-Hernandez, keep fighting, we are behind you all the way!!!
