Letter from the desk of the Mayor I want to remind everyone that we have a dangerous dog ordinance, it has been in effect since 2005. You are not to have pit bulls or part pit bulls within the city limits of Paris unless the dog is properly registered and insured. To date, there are no registered pit bulls or part pit bulls in the city limits, meaning if you have one here it’s illegal. If you want to keep your pit, I’m sorry it’s the law, and as mayor it’s my job to see that the law is enforced. Our animal control officer is well aware of the law. If she knows where a pit bull is, her job is to let you know you must remove your animal from the City limits or get it registered and insured. That is her job and she is well aware of that. The law is in place to protect the public from these dangerous dogs and to protect the owners of these dogs, whether they believe they need protecting or not. I’m sickened that an innocent child was severely injured by a pit bull in our city limits. That child has a law in place to protect it from this kind of dog. It was preventable, and it’s a shame that someone broke the law and had the dangerous dog here. When I meet with our animal control officer, we talk about this exact scenario. This is what can happen. This will happen. It’s always just a matter of time. A few months ago we posted on our Facebook page the dangerous dog ordinance for people to see. It’s the law and it will be enforced. If you don’t remove the animal, we will take it from you and ticket you for breaking the law. We have done it many times, those tickets aren’t cheap. My thoughts and prayers go out for that child, I pray for a speedy recovery, and thank God it wasn’t worse.

From the Arkansas Blood Institute: The Paris Boots & Badges Community drive was a huge success. We had 79 people attempt to donate blood. Of those, 61 were able to donate. With Jewel running the credit for Larry forms, as far as I know all donors signed the form and Larry should have 61 credits at this time. Larry was there until the end, and it was nice to see the community support for him. Now for the Boots & Badges aspect. Of the 79 that signed in, 41 voted for Boots and 38 voted for Badges. Soooooo….The Boots won this year by a very narrow margin. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this experience. Larry can continue to receive credits as people donate in the future. I had people ask me about it, and as long as they tell the staff they want to credit Larry, then the staff will get the form for them to complete. Thank you, Erin Goff Account Consultant Arkansas Blood Institute Cell- 479-652-3001 Email- erin.goff@obi.org

The Arkansas Blood Institute has set up a patient credit account for City of Paris Street Superintendent, Larry Robberson. We would like to ask everyone helping out with the Arkansas Blood Institute’s blood inventory during the Boots and Badges Drive on Thursday August 9th, if you would please let them know upfront that your donation is a credit for Larry Robberson and then complete the appropriate paperwork. Any and all types of blood donations are welcome. Blood donations from this drive will NOT go directly to Larry, he will simply receive a credit for the blood he receives during his treatment. Donors are not required to match the blood type and donation type specific to just Larry’s needs. The City of Paris is an amazingly generous community and we feel confident there will be a large turnout for this worthy cause. We encourage all who would like to donate at the Boots and Badges event on August 9th to schedule an appointment. An appointment will ensure that you will not be turned away due to insufficient staff and supplies. Call 1-877-340-8777 or visit arkbi.org to get set up. Thank you for your support.
