African American History Month Highlight: Lieutenant (Lt.) Andre Dyer first African American Motors Lt. Dyer was also the first Lieutenant to get certified to ride on duty, where he supervised traffic enforcement, as well as, rode in funeral processions for fallen officers. Little Rock School district, Little Rock Police Dept, Little Rock Fire Dept and Mems hosted a Stop The Bleed class for teachers at Otter Creek Elementary school. Over 25 teachers were instructed on Stopping the Bleed. Stop the Bleed is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency.

Officer Mike Hollingsworth was awarded the medal of merit for his actions at the Power Ultra Lounge mass shooting on July 1st, 2017. The medal of merit is awarded for an act of exceptional courage and dedication to duty while performing a police related act and is the second highest award for the Little Rock Police Department. Congratulations Officer Hollingsworth!

African American History Month Highlight: Captain Tanya Washington was the first African American female detective assigned to the Homicide Division in 2000. She later became the first African American female to be assigned Detective Lieutenant over Domestic Abuse, Juvenile, and Property Crimes Units in 2003. Following, she became the first African American female Commander assigned over the Community Oriented Policing Unit; where she received dual awards for “Community Service” and the “Lawrence Johnson Leadership Award (2005-2012).” Captain Washington is currently the only African American Division Commander. Thank you for the marks you have made in our department history!

African American History Month Highlight Sgt. Cedric Roy Roy became the first African American SWAT Unit Sergeant in July 2017. We will always remember him and his memory here at Little Rock Police Department. We continue to pray for his wife,son, family and friends.
