Tonto Apache Police Department News

Hello Tonto Apache Tribal members and friends. I just wanted to put out a warning regarding fraudulent scams going around in our area/community. The Tonto Apache Police Department has recently become aware of a California telephone number contacting people and claiming that they are affiliated with the IRS. This call can be an individual or come in as a audomated voice message. The caller or message states that the person contacting you is a Law Enforcement Officer either with the IRS or affiliated with some California Law Enforcement agency. The caller/message then states if you do NOT make arrangements to call the number back in a timely manner they will have their attorney or a local Law Enforcement Agency contact you personally and states something threatening will happen to you. Please do NOT contact these scam artists back or provide them any personal information. Never give them your name, social security number, date of birth, or any other personal information. These scam artists will use this information for opening fraudulent accounts in your name. The IRS will NEVER contact you via telephone. If the IRS would need to contact you regarding your taxes they would send you something via your mail and request that you contact them back. The only time when you MAY want to give your personal information over the telephone is when you are contacting an agency such as your primary care physician and they need personal information to identify you. Never give out personal information to someone calling you and requesting it. If you have any further questions or need further information regarding these telephonic scams please contact your Tonto Apache Police Department, we are here and always happy to assist you.
