Yesterday at 6:30pm, Scottsdale officers responded to serious injury traffic collision at 102ndSt and Happy Valley Rd. Officers learned that the victim vehicle (SUV) was occupied by a husband (driver) and wife (front seat passenger) and their juvenile son (backseat). The victim vehicle was headed eastbound and it pulled off the road (on the dirt shoulder) so the wife could take a photo of the sunset. A short time later, a Jeep Grand Cherokee (SUV) rear ended the victim vehicle at a high rate of speed. The victim driver sustained life-threatening injuries and the juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries. Both victims were transported to area hospitals. The victim’s wife was uninjured. The driver of the Jeep, who was later identified as 70-year-old Micheal DiFoggio, fled the scene on foot. After an extensive four-hour search, DiFoggio was found and arrested on multiple charges (Aggravated Assault, Endangerment and Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident). Alcohol impairment is being investigated as a factor in the collision. The Scottsdale Police Department reminds everyone not to Drink and Drive. The best choice someone can make, should they plan on consuming alcoholic beverages, is to find some other form of transportation that does not involve them operating a motor vehicle.
