Pleasant Hill Police Department News

Earlier today, one of our newest Officers Nick Filippini graduated from the Contra Costa County Police Academy. Officer Filippini will be sworn in and begin field training very soon. We welcome Officer Filippini to the Pleasant Hill Police Department family.

It’s not often that we recognize employees for their employment anniversary dates, but today marks Community Service Officer II Thomas Mueller’s 35th anniversary as an employee with the Pleasant Hill Police Department. Tom, a local boy and College Park HS graduate, began his career with us a Police Cadet in 1983. In 1986 Tom was promoted to the position of Community Service Aide, where he worked a variety of assignments. In 1998, Tom was promoted to the position of Community Service Aide II. While Tom prefers to fly a little under the radar in terms of acknowledgement, we’re giving him a shout-out today on reaching a significant milestone! Thanks for serving Pleasant Hill for 35 years Tom and here’s to your next 35!

Citizen's Academy: Tonight we were honored to present to the many people who made up the City of Pleasant Hill's first ever Citizens' Academy. Along with other topics, students heard about our Mission and Values and learned how we work towards those on a daily basis. We are committed to building partnerships with our community and we are always grateful for opportunities such as these.

Earlier today we celebrated the retirement of K9 Castor from active patrol duty. K9 Castor began work with his human partner, Ofc. Woehrman, in 2011. Since then, they have trained and worked continuously together, proving instrumental in the location and capture of criminal suspects, the location of missing persons, location of evidence and contraband, and participation in various community events such as National Night Out. While Ofc. Woehrman will be transitioning to a new role as a Detective in our Investigations Bureau, K9 Castor will continue living with his handler. After a distinguished K9 career of 7 years, we thank Ofc. Woehrman for his dedication to the K9 Unit and wish Castor a long and happy retirement with Ofc. Woehrman and his family.

Heavy Smoke: There are no active fires in or immediately around Pleasant Hill at this time. The smoke you are smelling is from the Solano County area. Our dispatch center is receiving multiple smoke related calls. Please only call our dispatch if you actually see an active fire. Thank you for your assistance.

A BIG THANK YOU to those who came out to join us this morning in honor of National Coffee with a Cop Day! Being able to meet with members of the community and enjoy a cup of coffee and conversations with those whom we serve is a wonderful opportunity for us and we're grateful to all those who took the time to stop-by. You rock Pleasant Hill! #CoffeeWithACop

News Release Crime / Incident: Theft of Smart Phones Date / Time Reported: September 5-October 2, 2018 Location: Pleasant Hill Case Number: Multiple Suspect: Unknown ________________________________________ Since early September 2018, Pleasant Hill PD and other Bay Area agencies have investigated several incidents involving the theft of smart phones, tablets, and other digital devices from cell phone stores. These cases may be related to one another as the suspects and their vehicle have a similar description in each case. During these thefts, the suspects have entered the store and used tools or force to defeat the tether devices that secure the phones to the display, before fleeing the area. The loss in each of the incidents has been several thousand dollars of merchandise. Pleasant Hill Police investigators continue to work on each of these cases to identify the suspects and are sharing information with other local agencies to determine if they are linked. The suspects in each of these cases have been African American males in their 20’s or 30’s, however, in some instances, their faces have been covered. The thefts have not been isolated to any one particular store, but the merchandise stolen has been newer iPhones, Galaxy phones, and apple watches. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Pleasant Hill Police Investigations at (925) 288-4630. Released by: Sgt Brian Leonard #368

We'll be at Starbucks (1900 Contra Costa Blvd - next to Nations) from 10am - Noon. Please stop by and say hi!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our retired K9, Muzzy. Muzzy, a Belgian Malinois, was born in November 2005, and joined the Pleasant Hill Police Department in July 2008. During his years of dedicated service, Muzzy assisted in apprehending suspects, finding drugs and contraband, and helping to locate missing persons. In addition to these duties, he also represented the department at many community events including National Night Out. Muzzy retired in December 2014 and spent his final years in the home of his long-time human partner, Sergeant Priebe. After a brief illness, Muzzy passed-away on September 26th, 2018, just a few weeks shy of his 13th birthday. Please join us in bidding a fond farewell to this dedicated retiree and wishing our heartfelt condolences to Sergeant Priebe and his family.

We are nearing the end of October and our pink patches and shirts have been a great success. We've raised over $2000 so far and want to finish the month off strong! Community Service Day Today a number of our employees participated in the City's 14th annual Community Service Day. As in years past we were able to facilitate giving away many bicycles to those in need. Others from our Department served breakfast to those who were there to help. Still others helped with some of the many projects occurring at Gregory Garden's Elementary School. We're all about service and it was an honor participate with many people there to serve our Community together.

Beginning Oct 1, you will see our officers wearing pink patches to support the fight against breast cancer. The patches are also available for a $10 donation for anyone that would like to support us. All proceeds will be donated locally to someone in the community to support their fight! Patches are available at the front counter of the station or by contacting us on facebook. If you're attending a CPHS football game, the patches are typically available from one of the officers there. Pink PHPD shirts will also be available soon. #pinkpatchproject

We are greatly saddened by the death of Deputy Mark Stasyuk who was shot and killed in the line of duty while responsible to a disturbance call. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Stasyuk's family and the Sacramento Sheriff's Office.
