Moraga police immediately responded and an officer located the stolen motorcycle being driven on Campolindo Drive. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the suspect did not yield to the officer and fled south on Moraga Road. The suspect led officers on a pursuit before he lost control of the motorcycle on Canyon Road at Country Club Drive. The suspect fled on foot for a short distance before being taken into custody. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Shawn Ham of Antioch, was later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of motor vehicle theft and felony evading, with additional charges pending of possession of heroin and driving on a suspended license. A coordinated effort by Moraga and Lafayette police officers led to the arrest of a residential burglary suspect, likely preventing residents from being further victimized by this individual. With other suspects still outstanding, please consider the following when safeguarding your home, vehicles, and businesses: * Keep your doors and windows locked, even at night when you are home and asleep. * If you need to leave a window open for ventilation, use a dowel in the window track or a lock on your window that only allows it to be partially opened. * At night, if you have an alarm system, set the perimeter portion of the alarm. * If you don't have one, consider installing an alarm system and/or surveillance cameras in and around your home. * Keep your side gates secured with padlocks to prevent easy entry into your backyard where a burglar would be shielded from view. * Keep your vehicles secured and valuables out of sight, even when the vehicles are in your driveway. * Report suspicious persons and vehicles to the Moraga Police Department at 925-284-5010.
