Last month five guinea pigs were left in a milk crate outside of the Sequoia Humane Society. Animal Control Officer Nims brought them back to our Humboldt County Animal Shelter, where they were made available for adoption. It just so happened a local preschool teacher at Mistwood Montessori decided her class was in need of a new friend. The teacher recently lost her beloved rabbit, Frankie, and was looking for a new pet she could share with her students. She decided to adopt two female guinea pigs, naming them Dottie and Waffle.
But much to everyone’s surprise, the teacher noticed something was unusual about Waffle, she wasn’t just a plump and happy guinea pig- she was carrying babies! Coconut, Domino, and their mom Waffle are doing well. The babies are being adopted out to new families.
Waffle remains with her friend Dottie (who is also an expecting mom!) spending their weekdays at Mistwood Montessori, where kids keep their hands behind their backs to observe them unless an adult is helping, and their weekends at home. #AdoptDontShop #HeretoHelp
