Victim Services Advocates Deployed to Help Ventura County Shooting Survivors and Families To assist survivors, families and first responders, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has deployed victim services personnel trained in mass casualty incidents to Ventura County. Among those assisting are members of the District Attorney's K-9 Unit and a Spanish-speaking victim services representative. "When a tragedy of this magnitude befalls a neighbor, it is imperative for us to unite and assist whenever possible," District Attorney Jackie Lacey said. "Our great hope is that our victim services personnel can bring compassion and some degree of healing to all of those affected." The District Attorney's Office deployed its personnel at the request of Ventura County. Facility dog handlers Ashley Meyers and Emyrene Coleman with their respective yellow Labrador Retrievers Skippy and Nora will visit injured survivors at hospitals, sit with families receiving notifications on the status of loved ones and spend time with first responders. Victim Services Representative Jenneifer Bobadilla will assist families in need of Spanish-language translation. In 2017, the victim services team spent 10 days assisting in the aftermath of the Las Vegas mass shooting. If you or someone you know from Los Angeles County was a victim of the Thousand Oaks shooting, please contact the Bureau of Victim Services at 800-380-3811.
