Press Release for last night's house fire:

🔥🔥FIRE!🔥🔥 An explosion near 135th and Jefferson caused a garage to fully engulf in flames. Nearby residents were quickly evacuated by HPD officers and LACOFD did an amazing job at containing the fire quickly before it could spread to nearby homes. Several people were near the explosion when it occurred, but luckily no one was injured. On August 9, 2018 Hawthorne Police Narcotics Detectives served a search warrant at 4119 W 135th Street where they discovered a large BHO (Butane Honey Oil) lab located at the rear of the property. Due to the volatility of the chemicals needed to make the drug, a HAZMAT unit responded and helped dismantle the lab. Investigators located a marijuana grow operation with over a hundred plants at the location. At approximately 12:45 AM the Hazmat team was purging one of the butane/propane tanks when the gas sparked, starting a fire and several small explosions. Officers vacated the home and also helped evacuate the surrounding homes while the Fire Department put out the fire. Residents were allowed back to their homes around 2:30 AM. The primary property along with one house adjacent to the property suffered fire damage but fortunately there were no injuries to the First Responders and residents. One person was arrested for numerous narcotics related charges: Juan Carlos Miranda, 30, from Hawthorne
