We didn’t forget about #TrafficTipTuesday! Tonight we’re talking about tailgating. We see it happen all too often. Drivers even tailgate us in our police cars 🤦‍♂️. What does the California Vehicle Code say about tailgating? Let’s discuss... CVC 21703: The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon, and the condition of, the roadway. This law requires when you are following a vehicle, you leave enough room so that you can safely come to a stop🛑 , or avoid other driving conditions without colliding into the vehicle 🚗 you are following. You may ask if there a set distance, and the answer is, no. It is important to leave yourself enough room to make sure you are safe 😊. If there is a collision, you will be able to stop in time to avoid it. When it comes to collisions, it is always better to witness it than to be involved in it. Protect yourself, your family, and others on the road and leave a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you 🚗👩‍👦‍👦.
